Does anyone here use Napster? I thought about using after considering that a CD I wanted cost $12 while a month of downloading unlimited songs only cost $15. I only saw one thing that bothered me : "You can listen to these downloaded tracks online or off-line as often as you like as long as your Napster subscription remains active."
I was planning on enrolling for a month, downloading like crazy, then not renewing. Any thoughts??

As soon as your subscription lapses (from non payment), all the music you've downloaded will no longer play.

What if you burn it on to a CD or your computer?

If you do sign up, they already found a way to record the streaming music.

An easy way to make that music continuously playable is to use Microsoft sound recorder, set it to stereo mix (if your sound card has that option) and record it as a .wav file. From there you can convert it to .mp3 format or leave it as-is. I believe there are other work arounds as well, but this is what I do to convert my Itunes music to .mp3's.

Those places are still pretty expensive...I'll probably never find the right place to always get my music. Oh well.

in canada downloading tunes is not illegal any more, however, if in the states, the apple store sells songs for 99Cents a song. At least ya only get the ones you like.

: ) just a thought

True-I actually considered this: Buy the CD, burn it on to my computer, sell the original CD, burn myself a copy on a CD-R.

Hmmm ... how would we all react when someone starts using our photos for nothing, without asking?

Exactly, E....If people were illegally downloading and using their photographs, they'd go ballistic.

Napster is the biggest rip off since the 04 superbowl half-time show. My girl bought this mp3 player and we also got the $15 card to download 15 songs. We came home and I tried for almost an hour but the only thing it will let you download is 30-second clips...what kinda crap is that!? I realize you can sign up monthly, but that really made me kinda mad.

We returned her mp3 player and I think she's going to get the ipod now.

i have limewire, downloads in seconds and very easy to use

To do it LEGALLY I would suggest ITunes. I use it and find it to be a great way to buy my music. 99 cents a download. If you want the whole cd most of the time it is only $9.99.

Just my .02 in favor of legally acquiring music: I have an iPod and purchase about half my new music from the iTunes store, and the other half through discounted new and used CDs. There are some great bargains out there. Amazon has a link on every item page to lower priced used items of the same title. It is occasionally possible to get a CD title for a few dollars plus shipping.

C'mon folks, lets support the artists' and pay them for their labors.

I've done considerable, highly technical, audio listening tests, both subjective and objective. I've concluded that legal music just sounds better.

Or maybe it's my clear conscience?

That does create a problem for enforcement, doesn't it, since PTP music sharing means you never have to upload anything, just install software on your computer and click "share."
