I was wondering if I could have your opinions on a couple photos I took recently:

The first is of the physical plant outside my dorm I took tonight since you could see the steam from it being so incredibly cold (49 in Orlando...freezing!)

The next one is of a blue flower (not sure of the type) that was in the garden behind the Honors College.

The last is of the waterfall at the Honors College. I took two...one in color and one in black/white, but the black/white one turned out the best in my opinion.

Thanks :) I was just wondering what you had to say about them and ways I can improve my photography

Oh, and sorry for them appearing so large...I'm not sure how to make them appear smaller in the boards.

great photos,

on the first, however, the horizon seems a bit unlevel, and there seems to be a distracting pole-looking object to the left that i think would be better left cropped out

on the third, i don't like the blown-out sky, but other than that, nice job - looks beautiful :)

once again, great photos

I really like them all, but the third one stands out the most. It is a great shot that could use just a bit more burning. Good eye on ya! Keep shooting and learning! B

Hi Jen,
Here's my 2cts. You have a good eye, but these shots need some work.

The first one is a little crooked & would look better if the pole on the left was cropped out (as Justin suggested). Also, it has quite a bit of noise of some kind. Not sure if it's a result of reducing your file size - it's only 21k, so that's where I'd put my money - or high ISO setting, or being fully zoomed out on your lens. If it's ISO noise, try running it thru Neat Image. It's free, if you don't have it. You can find it easily with Google. I'm not familiar with your camera, but I'm assuming it's a point & shoot of some kind. What I found with my p&s is that if I zoomed beyond the optical zoom limit, the image degraded more and more as I increased the digital zoom, so I'd suggest staying within the camera's optical zoom range.

I really like the second shot, but your focus ended up more on the outer edges of the shot than on the flower. The flower itself is a little over-exposed, maybe from a flash?

The third shot just looks completely blurred & over-exposed to me. Nice composition, but the image just didn't come out.

Again, that's just my 2cts. Hope it helps.

Tim
