Just got my first paycheck from shutterstock for 90 bucks! I started at the end of December, but my sales have been growing exponentially as my portfolio gets bigger. Currently i have 146 images uploaded... My goal is to make enough money on shutterstock and istock (currently at 40 bucks there) to get the Rebel XT by the end of this year.

... so happy right now!

Between Shutterstock, CanStock, Bigstock and Dreamstime (I don't do IStock)I earn enough each month to buy a nice new lens.

Congratulations! Thats very good work. You know I have been looking around for a good prosumer/advanced p/s camera for sometime for myself and I have gone through dozens of 'em. I have been here for more than a month and have been looking at the posts here and I have noticed that so many good photographers have dslr. You and some others are the few who have prosumers and click equally or better than dSLR owners. Kind of re-instates the belief that its 90% human + 10% equipment.
Excellen work...even from my amateurish pov.

how do you submit photos to a website like shutterstock?

Hey Ryan, You don't need a portfolio you can start with 1 photo. I'm making bucks at Shutterstock as well. Here is my link to shutterstock. Shutterstock link

Good luck... Bob

Very nice porfolio man, how much have you made off your shots? Do you upload them in the RAW format?

None of my cameras shoot in RAW. Also none of my cameras are over 3.1 megapixels. So for those that want to get started in stock photography
ShutterStock seems to be the best choice. I'm currently up past $50.00 now :)

Obviously once a person can get a higher pixeled, RAW producing, dSLR, prosumer, have more time to shoot, you can make more money. The "if you have more money you can make more money scenerio" is put into play.

I'm trying to figure out the math. You are paid 20 cents per download. That would be 450 downloads to $90.00. 146 images would only give you $29.20

Like you said... each download is 20 cents. If the same image gets downloaded 10 times, then it's $2.00

Depends on how popular an image is. One of my images has 25 downloads and some have none. I have more a couple images at over two digits.
