i messed up my post yesterday somehow, so i thought i try again. i didn't submit this week (i do not like taking pictures of people at all), but i did sneak around with the camera a little while on saturday. now i'm thinking i should've entered 'workout' and whether people would've liked 'sparrow'. any feedback on my out-takes is appreciated.

I think that one (workout) would have scored very high, especially after seeing some of the candids that were entered. I also like the men painting.... you have a better eye for people pics than you think you do.

They are all very good, but I would have rated workout very high. Why didn't you submit it? The poor little sparrow looks like he's stuck! What a catch. Definately submit that in a contest somewhere!

Workout is great, you should have went for it. The least you could have done is finish with me.
Keep shootin'

Wow, great photos. I like this better then most of the photos submitted, even mine. It seems people had a hard time capturing something candid. Yours is great. I like them all. My favorite is the ladies stretching.

For what it is worth, here are some of the ones that didn't make the grade for "Candid".

That bird is awesome! That would do so well in this challenge if people didnt think that candid had to mean people :( I've learnt that already and its only day 1 :(

I like the bird also. Autool the grapes are for this week and I think they will be harvesting them soon to make wine so you know where I will probably be today. Grapes are the main crop in Northern California.

oh, man, now i'm kicking myself even more! my husband keeps on telling me 'should've entered the workout, but you never listen to me' ... i may have to start listening. ;) thanks for all the kind feedback guys, maybe i do have to start going out and take people pictures more often and just get over the fact that i'm photographing people that don't know. :)

Workout is great. You really should have.

Question to everyone.... could a funny sign have been candid. It wasn't posed... I just drove by and saw it and it made me laugh... any thoughts??

My problem is I end up talking to the folks and spend 2 hours learning all about their life!!!

I went out shooting saturday afternoon and this happened. In order for me to get close enough with my Canon G2 I have to get in what I consider peoples personal space...10 feet or less.

So I usually put my camera away and start up a conversation about what they are doing. Because I work for a newspaper/TV station now I have credentials that put people at ease. Usually I can go around now and shoot till my hearts content.

My shots are definitely candid...the first few may be sorta stiff but after they get to know your reasons (freelance photojournalist is my line) they let you just wander around and don't pay attention after the first 30 minutes.

My set of shots this week only really started to get "Candid" (meaning natural and off the cuff) after meeting half a dozen folks and they forgot about the camera and went back to their thing.

But that article about how to shoot candid stuff located HERE is perfect for folks needing some tips. Dan Heller is an awesome photographer and great resource.

'Workout' is a gr8photo! I would have rated it very highly too. Interesting that you mention your husband and his opinion - I am enjoying bringing my wife and daughter and their opinions into the weekly Challenge - the Challenge brings us all together and they are enrolled in suggesting shots for the current challenge as well as offering opinions in the judging!

ok ok ok ok .. only with the ' workout is a gr8photo!' I understand your screen name ... I have been wondering why you choose that one .. I was saying it 'Gee Ar Eight photo' ....
(we do not have vanity plates in france so I am not used to this)

For this challenge I ended up with several possibilities and I chose to upload one of the last photos I shot. Usually, I stick with one idea until I can make it work and don't get a lot of outtakes. Candid was much more difficult than usual so I ended up with several. Any feedback would be appreciated.
(I wanted to take some photos of some of the hippies that hang around the square. They had some incense going....I THINK it was incense.... and they were on their knees hanging their dreadlock hair over the smoke and rubbing it in. I ended up not taking any photos, there was a big group of them and I was alone, there was just no way to be surreptitious.)

I thought it was too blurry to submit, I think I should've submitted this one instead of the photo that I did.
