Landscape photographers celebrate!
I'm going to guess that e301 will be adding another to his list of ribbons for this challenge ~_~

Who knows. I'm skipping it. I hate challenges like this.

May I ask why?

I think that this sort of challenge is great: it's fairly open-ended, in that one can take a picture of almost any picturesque nature scene, yet constrained in that we are trying to imitate a given style. I think that imitating the masters is an excellent way to gain experience and skill.

You have to live in South Alabama to appreciate why Ansel Adams never did scenics here. It's a long way to Cathedral Rock.

Sadly, I just checked, and where I would like to go to take a photo for this challenge is currently closed due to snow...

Remember that he did more than just scenery- I can remember seeing several of his photographs that focused on a single gnarled tree or something of that sort.

I'll keep that in mind, but what is going to do well here is the cliche Yosemite.

You all better watch your tonal range, because I intend to judge hard on that in this challenge.

You should be. I'm sure that if I wanted to be a detective I would know who Sherlock Holmes was.

Ansel Adams did a LOT more than just landscapes. Unfortunately, landscapes are what comes to mind when his name is mentioned.

Among other things, despite the challenge description, he was a pioneer of artistic color phtography as well as B&W.

I wouldn't go that far. He didn't like color photography, even though he did do some.

Adams' work is about composition, tone, lighting, and contrast.....not about big mountains.

If I'm not mistaken, there are quite a few city life images in his portfolio.

Well I know he did quite a bit of experimenting with it (especially later on), I think partly because he didn't like it as it was and was being used, and wanted to find better applications. I guess I just didn't particularly care for the description of "famous black and white photographer."

Most of his color work was experimental for the Eastman Kodak company. His black and whites are his source of fame though. As far as the challenge description goes, it doesn't do much. His 'style' is in his post processing :) Imagine that...
