Do a lot of people speak english in Egypt? What city are the great pyramids in? Can you walk right up to them? I really want to see the great pyramid before I die.

I am off to Egypt (Luxor) on monday 28th Feb for a week. This will be our 4th visit to Egypt, twice to Luxor and once each to Cairo and Sharm-El-Sheikh. Then it's off to Turkey (Turunc) in June for a week, which will be our 3rd time to Turunc.

We just love Egypt, its amazing. Cairo has to be seen to be believed. Around 23 million live there. We spent a week there a couple of years ago and loved it, so much to see and the Egptian people are fantastic.

So I will be going from a snow covered UK with temps of -2/+3 Degrees to around 30 dec C. Cant Wait.

I am heading to Zurich, Switzerland in April and maybe central France in June (luckily Mum and Dad have a house there).

If you feel like a visit to Basel while you are in Switzerland we could meet up for a beer or two :)

How far is Basel from Zurich (I am there for a week), as I always fancy a beer (do I need a loan to purchase them in Switzerland?)

It's a 1 hour train ride, beer is expensive in the bars but gets much cheaper as you get out of the city - I pay 50rp (20p) for a half litre bottle (nice stuff, 5%) from the village shop, at a bar in the city you can easily pay 8 francs (£2.50) for the same amount in a glass.

On the plus side though, they sell beer in the kebab shops and at MacDonalds :)

I wonder if a dpc central european meet-up would be feasible?

This is my truth also... I enjoy my work and where I live, so it feels like I am living a vacation:)

As far as travelling, I plan to go to the States with my family this summer and travel extensively for two months.

Yes a great deal of the people speak English. The great Pyramids are on the outskirts of Cairo in a place called Giza but there are many other Pyramids further south of Cairo at Saqqara and Dahsur that are worth Looking at. You can go inside the Pyramids at Giza. Cairo itself is spellbinding. The Citidal contains the Mohammed Ali Mosque which is a truly amazing building. I found the Citidal more spectacular than the Pyramids. Then off course you have the Egyptian Museum which is another amazing place. You must go!

May 10 th Wifey & I are off to the UK for 8 weeks in a camper. No set route but will prob spend 2 weeks in the south before travelling up the west coast across scotland and down east coast. Will prob spend most time in Lakes District as I hear it is beautiful. Will be a few days in Manchester visiting relatives.

As by Aussie standards it is such a small area to cover, would be glad to meet some DPCers if there are any GTGs planned or someone just wants a pint as we travel thru - just PM me if interested.

Nothing too exotic for me. We'll go back a couple times to the Boston area to see family, and do some short trips from there. Hopefully we'll get up into Maine for a couple days, I've never been there. Out here in CA we'll probably take our 4 year old on his first real road-trip to Yosemite. Got tv's, dvd, and Xbox in there so that should keep him occupied for a while.

I'm going to try and camp at all the state parks in Kansas during the summer. Maybe try and get over to the Black Hills area in South Dakota and a few in Oklahoma. I already did a week in Florida back in January.

Nothing exotic here either, with an infant and toddler it's kinda hard to make long trips. But will be taking a short weekend (kid free) trip to New York the end of March and back to So.California the end of April for a wedding and to the Donner Pass area in September for a family get together...

We are thinking of a cruise in the Mediterranean. We might also take a short vacation in Maui, we took a weekend trip there last year with some friends but did not get to see much of the island, or we might go to Molokai, I have been there for only a day and my wife has not been there yet at all, very nice laid-back island .
