I live in OKC and I am currently feeling that my surroundings are a bit asthetically challenged. Does anyone know of any interesting things to see and shoot near here, or within a days travel range?

Any ideas are appreciated. I need inspiration.

In OKC, take pictures of oil wells. Go outside of town and take pictures of windmills.

Move to Missouri.

In Tulsa the aquarium, the CitiPlex can have some nice sunrise reflections, downtown skyline, library building, and ORU praying hands might provide some possibilities.

There is the zoo in OKC and Tulsa, and the aquarium too. Little Sahara State Park has sand dunes. Great Salt Plains Lake in NW Oklahoma. Lake Tenkiller is good for birding. Tucker Tower at Lake Murray. Turner Falls in Davis.

Picture of a twister would be awesome, but probably too dangerous to try.

Thanks for these ideas. There are a few places I haven't tried.

Iceland would probably be more predictable. It is supposed to be in the 70s today, and it may snow by Wednesday. That said, I am going to go take some pictures!

Bye.

The Wichita mountains near Lawton are less than 90 minutes from OKC.

If you have a little more time (3-4 hour drive), go to Talimena Drive in southeast OK, near Talihina. You won't be disappointed. It makes the Arbuckle "Mountains" look like ant hills. Also, the world's tallest hill (Cavanal Mtn. near Poteau) is quite nice. Oklahoma probably has the most diverse vegetation and terrain in the central U.S. Sorry nsbca7, Missouri is just too flat and homogeneous for me. :-)

And of course, during the spring, western Oklahoma is arguably the best place on earth for storm photos.
