If 42 is the answer, could we be getting the question this April?

This is great. I have the novel (5 novels actually) right here at my desk. I truly loved this, but then again... I am different.

The lead actor is very funny (was in The Office).

I kind off remember the series we had in the UK when I was young, people seemed to love it. kind of cult programme.

Will be interesting to see how it turns out.

I played it on the Apple IIe, and it was one of the best games I ever played. Great puzzles and hysterical text!

Attention people of Earth.. I regret to inform you that in order to make way for the new hyperspaced express route your planet has been scheduled for demolition!

Have a nice day!

Whoo. I rememeber listening to the orignal radio series, late at night on radio 4 ... it goes down with the John Peel show as one of the formative media experiences of my youth.

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the books, especially the first one.
Judging by that trailer, I think they took a fair bit of poetic licence, but still looks good anyway.
It's going to do wonders for reviving interest in the books and getting a whole new generation into it.
Woooo hooooooo, I am looking forward to that one!
Edited to add:
I'll be carrying my towel into the cinema (if I can remember on the day) *g*

Cna't wait! Hope they do Marvin up right...can't see the trailer right now.

So long and thanks for all the fish!

Marvin is being voiced by Alan Rickman, which is at least a good start. They're going to be hard-pressed to match Peter Jones as the book though - even with Stephen Fry voicing it.

Seems the voice of Marvin is Alan Rickman. Perfect no?

Note to self, read to end of thread before posting to avoid needless repetition

I'll still go and see it, but didn't this trailer look too big budget and seem to take itself too seriously?

The BBCTV version had that great low tech cheezy goodness to it.

I did see on IMDB that they have Simon Jones, who played Arthur in the BBCTV version, in a minor role.

Hey! What's this thing suddenly coming toward me very fast? Very, very fast. So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide-sounding name like...ow...ound...round...ground! That's it! That's a good name--ground!
I wonder if it will be friends with me?

KTEH-TV (PBS in San Jose) has been running the BBC series lately, usually backed up against an episode of Red Dwarf.

Hmmmm....just watched the trailer. I think I may be disappointed....I read all the books after watching the series and always had all those great English voices in my head when I did. The subtle anglo-sarcasm that ran througout the series was a great plus for me. I think they've just gone and made it too high tech and too American....Pity!

Arthur looked up.
'Ford!' he said,'there's an infinite number of monkeys outside who want to talk to us about this script for Hamlet they've worked out.'

Man I couldn't be more jazzed about this movie. I can't wait to see Zaphod Beeblebrox. I never heard the radio version, but played the game on C64, and read the misnamed trilogy numerous times. I even read Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. Bring it on! WooHoo.

oh, how excited am i? i have read each of the 5 books of the hitchhiker trilogy at least a zillion times. the trailer appeared to do the book justice...which is good as the improbability that douglas adams isn't one of my favorite writers, is roughly two to the power of two hundred and seventy-six thousand, seven and nine to one against. and with that, i have no idea what i just said.

so long and thanks for all the fish, indeed. ;)
