Just got a message back to say my bridge picture has been verified! I have had a sleepless night waiting. I felt like a school boy waiting to go to the principals office. Can not understand why someone would ask for proof of submission on such a basic photo - should you as the photographer not be given some sort of a reason if you are found to not have transgressed the rules?
Anyway score so far :

I agree that it would be nice to know why the DQ request was made. It seems like you as the photographer are owed that much: shouldn't we know what the actual charges are?

I guess people are just not willing to look for any other bridge apart from a physical one... ah well.

i've had a few comments on mine and it seems that 4/5 of them took the time and effort to understand it! so atleast i know 4 out of more than 400 got it. lol.

i think next time i'll stay within the box, or atleast on the borderline.

Posted in another area - some concerns about voting. I'd like to see the following changes (as a Newbie, finding this is really time consuming. It's unfair to the photographers, rushing thru the list.
1. If I can't do it all at once, I really can't remember if I saw that one before (or especially, what I wrote) I wish each one covered would have a check mark or highlight.
2. I thought at first that my count was saved (had a message about how many.) When I returned last time to do more - no count showing.

Maybe I'm missing something - but from reading the posts here, it looks like everyone is having trouble finding 4-5 hr blocks of time to do a decent (and fair) job of judging.

Another question. How do I actually vote for my favorite? Is it the highest score? What if, after viewing all, I change my mind about which one deserves a higher than originally given score?

Thanks for your patience with my ignorance (which will be short-lived) of all the procedures. Kathy

Started after 30-40 votes at an urealistic 6.8, then down to 6.3 and now again up to a nice 6.6

@ Kathy:
1. The ones you have voted on are at the last page(s) of the voting section, so you don't vote on them again. There they are sorted by vote, your 10's together, 9's together and so on.
2. You can at anytime change your vote, in any way. Many ppl use 4,5,6 as placeholders during voting while they are doing a rough vote into blocks and then finetune later.

Petur - You are either a teacher or one who loves to share knowledge. Thanks for the clean, crisp explanation of the vote-sorting. Those of you have answered my questions, thank you also.

Back to the voting. See you all in 5- 6 hours! Kathy

Amazing that some people don't know that a bridge can mean more than one thing. LOL

Somebody just made my week. They picked my picture for a favorite, that's a FIRST!
02/21/2005 11:28:39 PM · #216
With 34 great comments so far, print approved up to 16x20 and my 5th highest scoring shot ever, I'm pretty happy right now.

I'd actually be happy wherever it ended up, as it's one I'm real fond of for a change.

I am eagerly waiting to see which photographers can own up to the ones I've voted on. There were some pretty wonderful pictures out there, and will most likely end up in my "Favorite" pile.

Thanks to all of you submitters. Your photo's are sharpening my eye in some cases, and reminding me that personal growth in any talent is crucial, in other examples. I've had a great time looking at all of them.

I always tell school kids, knowing the question is often as important as knowing the answer. Some great shots (especially insects) were squandered in a Bridge Challenge (I mean, there's Creativity and then there's Stretching it thin!) Hopefully, they can be re-submitted in a different challenge.

They must all be young-uns or right healthy oldies... Most of us ole folks are only too keenly aware of the other types of bridges... thems over ya nose and the teeth ones and similar things we recognize as we trek towards that final bridge... hehehehe

My "see you in 5-6 hours" was a tad optimistic! - Try 5 days! But, I finally finished rating every single one of the submissions. Three feelings reign . . .

1. Anticipation - impatiently waiting to find out which photographers own up to which entries. It's like admiring home-made gift wrap, eagerly waiting to open the whole package!

2. Resignation and frustration, knowing there will be quite a few "creative" phototogs, who will be moaning about their low scores. It isn't that we aren't imaginative enough to "get" it; it just may be that you didn't quite create a good photo.

3. Joy at joining in with some incredibly talented, interesting, funny, and kind people who live with an eye for beauty, and a need to share.

What an experience! Thank you all. Kathy

Hey Ray - Forget "trekking" - I'll be lucky if they can roll me to my final destination! I wasn't expecting "old" for another 10 years!

Funny.... I've been monitoring my score all week and this is the highest it has been so far. After being severely hammered on the first day I've received some respectable scores the last few hours. I'm now hoping for 20th percentile in my first challenge. We'll see.

It was actually holding a 7.2+ for a while! Who'da thunk it?

I was really hoping my Self-Portrait III entry would get up that high, but it only finished in 17th place. I guess I was just too purdy. Or maybe I needed more beard.

Based on the scores just posted, I'll put that 'r' word right out of my mind now! Hey chik0325, I just checked your profile and saw your age. Now I'm really impressed. My son's the same age, so he'll enjoy watching you beat me!
