We have done photographic technique challenges before such as leading lines, perspective, and square which all produced some amazing entries. I think it would be a great idea to continue on with these techniques that we all need practice with and have a symmetry challenge.

Challenge Details:
Use symmetry and even balance to compose your photograph and remember your it must reflect on a center or axis.

I'd like to know your thoughts. Looking back, there are lot of entries that would have done great in this challenge.

I think this part: "it must reflect on a center or axis" might be confusing to some people (me included :D). It's a good idea. The word symmetry is kind of broad so maybe narrow it to: Nature's Symmetry, or something like that.

We haven't had much luck with including "nature" in the title. I agree with you... symmetry is broad which in this case works good. A wide variety of submissions. If the 'axis phrase' is confusing it could be woreded a little more plainly.

Oh yes please can we have a break from the nature stuff? Symmetry in everyday objects would work great. Just symmetry by itself would yield some great images.

Forcing the image to be totally symetrical would limit the challenge. Often symmetry is best used when its broken.

Symmetry is for Copy machines not "artists". However if the challenge is open ended enough, I think it would be fun to break the "rule" of symmetry.

Woo-hoo!

I was really surprised to see my idea made it. I have so many ideas in my head, I can't wait to start shooting.

This challenge will be about how to use your abilities to photography symmetry. No boundaries on nature or so forth. This challenge isn't about who we as "artists" can break symmetry. You can find broken symmetry is any regular shot you take.

The challenge says:
Use symmetry and balance to compose your photograph. Good luck!

Artists can use both symmetry and balance to create art. Not a problem for a creative mind. Good luck!
