Robolympics sounds like fun... I'm not sure if I can make it.. I might join you...

Yes, it was a beautiful friday night, it was nice meeting you as well Don. I posted one pic here.. It is hard to see the details on a 640pixel picture.. But it looks really nice full size. I printed one out and it came out really nice :)

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/19503/thumb/151141.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/19503/thumb/151141.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

Does that look too soft on your screen? I am having a hard time seeing these tiny pictures on my monitor. However the print was very sharp... And the large size does look sharp as well on my monitor.

For ease of access, here are Don's pictures:
//orifice.net/1614
//orifice.net/1615
//orifice.net/1616

I dunno what the problem might be- I just click on them and they show the larger version.

I'm definitely going to do Mt. Diablo on March 5; Robolympics is less certain. I'm going to start a new thread about the March 5 trip.

Damon

[ edit ] PS: I really like the first shot (1614). The colors are great and I really like the deep DOF.

I don't think there's a way to do it on DPC, but check out //www.orifice.net. (It tends to have a lot of "adult" images on it, but it's the easiest way to upload pictures that I know of.)

Robo-olympics is a go for me. I would prefer to go on a thursday or friday if that fits into everybody's schedule. I work on saturdays. Who else is going to join us ? sfalice post the date and time you want to go with a meeting location and we will take it from there. If I'm not a member yet do I have a way to still post pics. I'm not sure how to do that yet. I would love to share my Bridge pictures with you guys.

Yeah- how did the photo shoot go, Don? Sorry I wasn't able to make it--hopefully next time. I'm definitely interested in seeing the results!

Great idea, DDYJR. I can start it off with a suggestion: There's an event that should be fun to photograph on Mar. 24-27 at San Francisco State University called robolympics.net. I checked with them on behalf of the camera club I play with, and photographers are welcome. (But there's an admission charge.)

You picked a great spot for photographs last night. Hope you and Sonda post some of the results.

Maybe we should start a bay area information site for all dpcer's who visit the bay area tied in with an a information site targeted specifically for bay area meets. Me and Sonda had a wonderful time in San francisco last night. It was a pleasure to meet you Sonda wish our group could have been a little bigger. We took some wonderful shots of the Golden gate bridge from the marin side with some really cool cloud cover and excellent lighting. We were on Hawks Peak which is off of Anserson road (the first exit past the vista point on the marin side), double under the freeway and make your first right and follow it up to the top of the hill.There is an old world war one bunker at the bottom of the hill that is pretty cool to photograph at night. Some really cool shadow effects. Ok this thread is getting a bit long, who ever is interested in joing our group next time in the bay area make this a watched thread. I'm looking at a meet maybe every two weeks. I have Sonda's # If any of you whant to pm me with a contact # please do so I will keep you informed of our planned activities as well as posting them here.

Well, I'm coming too. (Sonda and I will drive over together.) But, while I have heard good things about the photography in the canyons that can be reached through Clayton, I've never been to them and would need directions.

I think BrennanOB - in the other thread - mentioned them and if he is monitoring this one, perhaps he will chime in with directions.

PS DDY - how is the Brentwood fruit tree bloom?

I would like to join you on March 5th. I would be open to any alternate dates as well especially if anyone gets a good idea for a current challenge. A good friend that is a DPC member has to work Saturdays which make Sunday or Monday the only good time for us to consider. The next few months become one of my favorite times to go to the coast... and for those of you that may enjoy motorsports Infineon Raceway has always the potential for exciting shots. I have a very flexible schedule and if any locals or out of towners would like to get together spontaneously that would work for me too. Just PM me and I'll get back to you right away.

Just want to bring this thread to life again to see if Bay Area people are still interested in a get together on March 5. Last I heard, Mt. Diablo was a likely destination. Either the base, in the canyons around Clayton (suggested by BrennanOB) or the summit. Also, Rock City (between the summit and Danville) would be an interesting secondary destination.

If BrennanOB is watching this thread, how are the wildflowers doing in the canyons? Out yet?

I'll be glad to take a couple of passengers if the day is still on.

Cool, thanks Tech. I have to check it out.. know some ppl not too far from there, I'll have to ask them to take me for a roundtrip :)

The industrial areas I've been to around here so far does not seem to be safe for solo females to explore.

I haven't run into any industrial areas I would call scary. Have you tried exploring the dock areas between the China Basin Channel and Islais Creek Channel? If you're not familiar with the area, the major street is 3rd. Just pick any street heading toward the bay and start exploring. Lots of great buildings down there.

I like the idea of a spring flower trip or an after midnight trip, but tough to do both. There are some nice flowers in some of the draws behind Clayton on Mt Diablo.

I might suggest Saturday, March 5, leaving open the possibility for a second outing the following month if we so choose. Given what joro said about Mt. Hamilton, that might not be the best choice for purely practical reasons. I've never been to Mt. Tam, but it is pretty far north, and would require a lot of driving for anyone coming from the South Bay.

Mt. Diablo seems good, as it's not too far north or south, and is as far as I know fairly accessible. There's also the possibility, which appeals to me, of going to a park and for a short hike--e.g., Castle Rock or Big Basin, though those are probably lengthy drives for anyone (especially the latter) - but Big Basin is a beautiful place full of old-growth redwoods and, I think, worth the drive, especially if you've never been there before.

So: Saturday, March 5: who's free? Destination to be determined.

In Sf here as well, a group outing sounds like fun :)

Wish I knew some cool industrial areas of SF to poke around in that are not scary!

Been to Mt Diablo and Tamalpais like both those alot.. Never been to Hamilton.

Well, let's narrow it down to a date:
Saturday OR Sunday
March 5 or 6
April 2 or 3

Or alternate?

Then, a site:
Mt. Hamilton
Mt. Diablo
Mt. Tamalpias

Or alternate?

I'm in SF with a pretty free schedual...

MT Tam is pretty nice this time of year (north of SF), MT Diablo would be cool. The industrial areas of SF are really fun to poke around in (got in trouble with trespassing once though...oops)
