For my first lighting Kit this is what I am getting, do you think this will work for practicing portrait shots?

2 Photo light fixtures with ten inch round metal reflectors
2 250 watt photoflood (bulbs)
2 adjustable light stands
collapsiabl reflector

I think you will find that you will need to boost your ISO quite a bit to get decent shutter speeds, even with fast lenses.

"Lights on a Budget" - can you define "budget"?

The alien bees are great, but many feel that the Bowens systems (carried by Calumet) are a little better.

Depending on your budget they have a great system with an unbeatable price. The Travelite 2250 kit set for $1999 comes with 3 750 watt lights, stands, a softbox, 2 umbrellas, grid reflectors, wireless trigger system, and more! I researched and researched and it does NOT pay to buy it piece by piece, as the kit saves you hundreds of dollars!

I'm actually waiting on DHL to bring mine to me right now! :)
