This girl I know from school wanted me to take some last minute photos of her at the bar we were in...fortunatly I had my camera in the car and tripod..LOL..
Anyway, these were not set up real well, but she's beautiful.. please tell me what you think and what you would have rated this in a portrait challenge. THANKS!

Maybe its just my monitor, but for #1 and #3 I'd have either gotten rid of the hat or changed its color a bit. From here the black hat matches the color of the background and just makes it look like her head is partly cut off.

For #2 I'd cut out the beer. Its a bit distracting.

I would say these are pretty good given the situation! I'm assuming you had to use on camera flash because of the low light in a bar and on camera flash is almost never ideal for portraits. My recommendation:
1. Get her to 'pose' for you again.
2. Find a location with good light from a source such as a window. Slightly overcast days are great or throw a thin sheet over the window.
3. But a white something (foam board, cardboard, white sheet) opposite the window to provide fill light.
4. Snap away like crazy.
Given the three images you posted here, I would expect to see some pretty impressive results.

Thanks for sharing!

Photo #3 is a bit odd around the eyes. Because of the hat covering part of one eye, she appears cross-eyed due to the amount of white showing in both eyes.

Otherwise, a nice look!

Thanks for the information, when I see her again, I will have to talk her into posing for me again and see how it turns out. I also have some awesome portraits of my kids I will post here in a little bit..gotta load em up first..

Very attractive girl, I'm personally not a fan of using filters or soft focus of any sort. She looks like she'd be a willing model, you just have to coax her into relaxing - her face is very "staunch" ... but like you said, it was impromptu. I'm sure she loves these :-)

Tried this for size, looks okay, except the hat disappeared into the background.

What do you think??

Her hand look strange. I think it would look better if you cropped out her hands.

Given the situation, I think they are very nice.
I am not too crazy about #2. It's a bit too oof and dark.
#1 and #3 are really nice.
She looks a bit too red to me, but you can play with tha a little bit in PS.

I like the b&w version when it comes to the body tones, but her head looks like it was cut off or something. quite weird IMO...

I have done the black and white of her. Just didn't post it. Thanks for the ideas.
