Sorry guys again im peeved off i took a photo yesterday of a bug climbing "STRAIGHT UP" towards me .

I am now recieving comments in the "from above" challenge that my picture is horizontal?? ,now this annoys me as i spent some time in making sure my camera was pointing towards the ground as this particular insect was climbing up towards me!!

There may be some doubt that this photo was taken yesterday but i can prove it very easily...in fact this particular chap is living in a plant right outside my door.

What have i done wrong and why cant people percieve my picture as being a true "from above" shot?????

Hoogie. As annoyed as you are.. please do not directly reference your submission in this post. You may talk about it in general vague terms.
Thanks.

So how do you suggest karen that i can explain my problem more discretly?

Hoogie - it may me my comment that's got you riled. My point was (and I think I stressed that I believed the shot was taken straight down), that there was nothing within the photograph itself that suggested that. Which there isn't. That's all - seems a very fair point to me, and an entirely valid critical point to make. I'm going to stress again - 'within the photograph itself' - OK?

Like I said, it's a great photo (isn't that enough?). I just think it could have had more impact.

Sorry if I upset you, but I also think I made it quite cleaar that it was only my opinion.

Please understand i have no problem in critisism i am only new at this and welcome opinions and no you didnt upset me , i can see your point it can look horizontal and as i know it wasnt taken that way i never looked at the photo in that perspective.

I just cant see in this particular case how i could of made it more obvious it was a vertical shot ,unless i ripped the subject away (which i prefer not to do)

But your comment is not the only one in suggesting this isnt a vertical shot !!

Glad to know my comments accepted in spirit they were intended, Hoogie :-)

As to how to put the 'vertical' element in ... yeah, difficult, especially with that depth of field. But tthat difficulty is part of the fun. Perhaps something, however out of focus, in background, that is obviously vertical - edge of house, or evn the floor rather than the (presumably) flower behind the little critter.

You can explain it in as much detail as you like after the challenge has ended. In the meantime, we try to keep our submissions anonymous during voting. I understand that sometimes that can be difficult.

I tend to think that my submission is suffering the same problem with the "looking down" problem. It can be taken either way, considering I cropped out the background because it was distracting and I found something much more interesting to focus on. Oh well...to me it is a very good photo, and if it can't be judged that way and given "the benefit of the doubt," so be it. I am very pleased with it.

The whole purpose of photography is to create an "impression". It will be great if an image captured in whatever position or perspective gives the impression of being taken "From Above". That's the challenge. The rest is up to the photographer.
