Because of my stupidity I will not be able to partake in many of the activities here at DPC for at least a couple of weeks. I may not be able to finish comments on the BNG challenge. Will not comment on the architecture and least but not least on the best of 2004. I feel terrible about this: not my stupidity, the comments. As you gather, this may also mean I will be unable to enter any immediate challenge.

About my stupidity: let this be a warning to those that work with strobe lighting. I have used strobes most of my life and I always exercise caution. While doing a commercial shoot that required a capture of grains in a certain pattern, I had to shoot and reshoot perhaps 60 consecutive takes while the strobes attacked my periphreral vision (mostly the side of my right eye) Well, the result has been double vision. As you know, I like multiple teachers, never trust just one and the same for Doctors, which I hardly ever see.

The first doctor told me that the muscles in my right eye are weak. I said no way. The second doctor confirmed my prognosis. This second doctor agreed with me that the constant strobe has had an adverse effect on the eye. This doctor checked my muscle response. It is fine. This is like a look at the sun sort of thing but not directly: So I conclude that the strobe have irrititated the eye. I am hoping it did not damage the nerve. The first doctor gave me the next appointment for March. Here he leaves me seeing double until then. Can you believe, I even had to pay this guy. The second doctor believes it is inflamation and was quick to give me some expensive eye drops to soothe and heal the inflamation. My eyes look normal.

As of yesterday I am seeing double in all its glory. I walk the streets and when I see a car, I see the same car right on top of it. I look at my wife and there are two of her. Makes me feel like a happy Mormon. Well, as a benefit this gives me two of everything. I looked at DPC, my home page and there I see 8 ribbons. lol Do not feel sorry for me, I tend to enjoy life and all its changes and this is an experience. For example, awaiting my eye prescription, I see my reflection on a distorted chrome mirror. What a sight with double vision. Kept thinking of doing some shot like that in the future.

According to the two doctors this may come to an end. I agree with them. It may take several weeks or even a month, unless I did damaged the optic nerve, which I doubt because visibility is acute, otherwise I would not be able to see double. Also, there is slight improvement in regaining the sharp focus.

I have been asked to refrain from strobes and computers for this time. I will do so but not completely. That is, I will sneak into DPC here and there. I can only type using one eye, so it is uncomfortable and the eyes are sensitive to all light. This slight trauma will pass.

So be careful using strobes and yes I will be around whenever but please excuse my inactivity. I will log in and perambulate and suddenly be gone again. Good luck to all of you and may your images respond to your desires.

Sorry to hear that and hope you recover soon.

Since buying an add-on flash and take pictures by bouncing off the ceiling I tend to close my eyes as I snap.

I think that this is a lesson for all of us to learn, Like you I too take my strobes for granted. I hope you recover completely and in the shortest time. Do what the Drs say. as an aside I have a familymember who is a concert violinist,he developed RSI, did not undertake the therapy that the Ds ordered ,and now can only play in short bursts.

maybe we should wear sunglasses when working close up with strobes?!!!!!

Thanks for the heads up on this Dan.

I have been experiencing the same thing when looking at my ribbons. Glad the same doesn't happen when I look at my wife.
Booo - sorry - had to - it's in my nature.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Wishes for a speedy recovery. As an afterthought, if you are a big aspartame user ( nutra sweet in all the diet, sugar free products) discontinue using it immediately. It breaks down chemically in your system into ethanol and formaldahyde, and one of the most common and unfortunate symptoms is eye nerve damage.

Same thing happened to me in 1976. I was good to go in 10 days. Of course I didn't have computers beckoning then, but I did strobe the daylights out of my poor eyes. So I have fiath everyhting will be fine soon, for you.

If you insist on peeking at the 'puter, send the wife to the pharmacy to get you an eye patch. Hell of a lot more comfortable than squinting one eye closed.

Daniel, what a disappointment to stumble across this thread today. I hope this is not a side effect from removing your head for the "Broken" challenge. Maybe it's just a loose screw huh?

Do take care of yourself and let us know how you are getting along.
You have a great outlook.

Best Wishes to you.
