Just found Picasa2 on the Google.com side and I must say that it is probably the best software to manage photos on any computer.
Is is also free so go and try it

i see it now supports RAW....

how well does it do with the NEF's?
I tried ACDsee to see how it did with nikon raw, and it was pretty much horrible.

I second the opinion on Picasa2. It is very nice! I love the timeline feature, plus RAW support.

I've tried Picasa 1 it was OK but I didn't like the interface to much. Also one major drawback for me was the fact that you can't create albumns within albumns.

For instance if you have a folder of photos called Holidays, then a level below that for each holiday and then a level below that which seperates events during each holiday. You can't do that in Picasa, not in the version I saw anyway.

Can you do that in the new version?

Edited for typos.

"... on any computer"? Sure looks like it's only for Windows!

I have to say that this is MUCH improved over the first version of picasa. the raw support for my NEF's is really good too. i'm importing all my images now, can't wait to play around with it some more. it seems to render the colors a little different than nikon view... so far the only drawback i see is that it doesn't auto-rotate the NEF's like nikon view does.

but even without rotating the images, this could very well be a perfect way to catalog, backup, and maintain images. i'm liking it so far!

I tried out Picasa 2 last night as well. Impressive, and way better now that it does RAW. I have noticed that it makes mulch of some of my thumbnails, seemingly completely at random. Some look like an old 80's Atari game or something. Maybe a bug they need to address? Otherwise, I like what I see.

Since they do say on the web site that they will consider requests for a Linux version, I would suggest that any of you Linux people out there use the feedback link on Picasa's site to voice your request... I already have...

Yeah, I know. There's only five of us who like virus free worlds where we can fantasize about having drivers for calibration pucks :)

iView Media Pro is pretty good. The price tag is heft ($200 street) so that may deter but for us Mac lovahs there isn't much to go with.

Right now I am using Adobe CS2's Bridge. It functions better than iPhoto (which I used to love until this slow bogged down version in iLife '05) but it's not perfect. iPhoto is good until you have an expansive library and then it just slooooooooooooooooows down.
