I have been using a trial version of Ulead Photo Impact, and I'm fairly pleased with the variety of things I can do for the price. BUT - I have never used Photo Shop in any form. Can anyone who has used both give me their thoughts please? My sister has Photo Shop elements, and in comparing notes, there are some advantages to Photo Impact, and other advantages for Photo Shop Elements. Both are about the same price, and I'm trying to decide which one to purchase.

I would be interested to know as well, since I use Elements. Is there a big difference between the two?

I used photo impact until a few years ago and had to switch over to Photoshop (not elements). Except for that one reason (to be able to save true CMYK TIF files) I found PhotoImpact to be very good.

If ou look around you might be able to find an older version for REAL cheap - I got the previous version on CD in one of those bargain bins at Staples for under $10

I have seen PS 7.0 on ebay (has virtually all the functionality of the latest version, I still use it because I haven't upgraded to xp, which PS CS requires) for as little as 25 dollars.

I have used Photo impact for a number of years and can say that it is an excellent software package.

But it is not photoshop which is the best, I use Photoshop CS for all my adjustments but I still open the finished image in photo impact when completed for some reason it seems better for viewing images for the web and saving for the web.

But if you are really serious about your photography and on a budget start with elements because it is very difficult to learn photoshop after using photo Impact.
