I think the pencil challenge started out w/ 187 entries. We know what happened to ugly naked guy, but now there's only 184? What else got dq'd?

Is there a way that we can post the DQ'd photos somewhere and talk about the reasons they were bumped off? Just curious...

Yeah. I saw the thumbnail, but missed the actual photo (lucky me?).

Also, it seems I missed the horse "pencil", that almost sounds like it would have been amusing.

That still leaves one photo unaccounted for...

I like the idea of discussing WHY the photo got bumped. Some people don't understand the rules. I have NO idea what a "filter" is, so if I used one, I'd have no idea I did it. I think it has something to do with higher quality cameras or a photo editing program, of which I have neither, so what I shoot is what you see. I'm not too worried about it, but that poor kid that got DQ cause he used a "noise" (whatever that is). And he had 1st place! Might make it a little clearer. The naked guy got DQ and the toilet with the pubes (that was actually used in the curves challenge) was also DQ. Not sure what else. Good idea about discussing why though. My only concern would be that if it were done on accident, and one person was singled out, it could make them feel really bad. Maybe ask them first before we single them out.

I believe it was a retake of the infamous "Lone Pubert".

Ole Kermie never had it so rough!!!

"Canned" for too much photoshop fun :-)

The horse pencil is still in the challenge. Of the other two photos, one was disqualified for an illegal spot-edit (addition of a tagline) and the other had an illegal spot-edit and also had been submitted to a prior challenge.

DQ (since I was here in the first minute and got to see ALL photos first thing)

Toilet with pubes
Naked guy

Not that I'm defending the naked guy, but it DOES say nudity is allowed as long as it's not pornographic. Reason for DQ MAY not have been done intentionally, and likewise for the horse penis photo. I read a post from the photographer about the horse pencil. They were refering to the penis as a pencil. I didn't understand it either until I read that post. Could it be that it's called that in another country?? Strange.
However, the exact same pube photo (minus kermit) was used in the curves challenge.

The naked guy was funny as he11!!

I nearly spit my coke up when I saw it. But then I said.."hmmm..looks a little too much like an ad for 'lovers of young boys'...or some such thing."

Definitley not for family viewing...but very strange in a car wreck kinda way.

I apologize about the horse penis thing. I saw the comment up there about it being DQ and also saw the photographer talking puplicly about their photo (without it being edited by a moderator) took a look, didn't see it. It was NOT there. Then I just went back, and it's there again. (in the same spot I left it the first time). Weird, anyway, sorry for going by the first suggestion that it was DQ.

Ok, so I misinterpreted the horses thing...

I thought the red and white striped thingy was the "pencil" and I just didn't "get" the photo. I rated it and moved on...

Boy is my face red.

My apologies for being vulgar, but I think the horse photo makes more sense to people from the UK and other places (like Australia) where "pencil dick" is a slang term. In Australia you'd use it to refer to some guy as being a weakling, ie. has a small penis, etc. I can understand why a lot of people may not get it. I think the guy who submitted it (or at least has posted in the forums referring to it) is from the UK.

we use that in the USA as well. In fact..that was the first comment that came to my mind when I saw the naked guy.

Ok, the use of that phrase is familiar to me. I didn't associate that to the horse cause well...he's hung like a horse. I did figure that they could be from somewhere other than where I'm from, cause I simply didn't understand the reference to pencil. Just like, if the challenge was chips, and someone posted a photo of "french fries" a lot of people wouldn't get it. But they call french fries "chips" over seas. I would LOVE to have been there when he took that photo though. can you imagine the looks that guy got??

Though I found it vulgar, and done terribly, I could streeettcchh my imagination into thinking he was supposed to be a model for an artist to sketch him.... like an invitation or something?... given the sketch pad and pack of colored pencils. But, again, I'd have to give quite a bit of leniency to get that far.
Perhaps a sketch pad on an easle blocking a portion of his anatomy in the background would have gotten this point across without being vulgar?
just my humble opinion.
sorry, dude!

Thanks for the explanation, Karen. I have nothing against nude pictures and actually a GOOD picture of a nude model being drawn by an artist would have made a good, original submission. This, however, seemed to depict merely the lewd soliciting of an ugly, fat guy who was covered by mosquito bites to boot.

Karen..even an artsy fartsy freak like me who has seen hundreds of nude models over their artsy fartsy school career could see a need for discretion in this instance.

I remember a human figure class in college where the model was very well endowed. I think he was even an athelete for one of Virginia Techs teams. Unfortunately he had a habit of gettin a little TOO excited about being there.

The professor said " Excuse me son, we are equally thrilled you are here to pose but we need to position you so we don't have 36 drawings of an erect penis".

I later informed the professor that I can't speak for all the guys but you would have only had 35 drawings of an erect penis and one very nice eye study!!!

Terry,

The best way to report this is to click the "recommend for disqualification" link on the bottom of the voting page for the photograph in question. Please indicate your reason for requesting the disqualification in the space provided, and be as specific as possible. After doing so please vote on the photo as if all rules were followed.

The moderators will review it and disqualify if warranted.

terry, if you have reason to believe someone is breaking the rule, send a DQ request to the moderators specifying why you think the rules have been broken. they will investigate and DQ if necessary, or add an admin note that a photo is indeed legal. there's one (with money being erased, don't remember the title) in this week's challenge that has such an admin note if you want to see what i'm talking about.

Hi Journey and Hokie: Absolutely! Just wished the photographer *had* used more creativity and discretion. ;)
