I coined mine in the late 90's while working in a tech job (Digital) in Spain (Quixote). It became my online persona. It led to the url on my vanity site, and is now the email I use to register for stuff (and therefore collect SPAM in one place ... don@digitalquixote.com)

Mine is first initial + last name.

I'm pretty evenly split between jpochard and "mamapo" as my Internet names.

Mamapo came about because my daughter's nickname is "Po" from her volleyball days, and I sort of tend to "mother" all her friends. I'm the "call on anytime" mama for a place to stay, an ear to listen, a 2x4 to the side of the head to stop a pity party, or hugs as needed. :)

I was once a huge online gamer. My friends nick for ToFear and I ripped it off as DoFear. I went as this alias for so long that I'm still recognised in some gaming communities.

Photography is a hobby I do for myself. Most of the important things I do in life are for my wife or kids. Right now, I coach 2 indoor soccer (football for the non-Americans) teams for my kids, and when not working full time, shuttle them back and forth to their other teams. There are plenty of soccer Moms in the US, so it seemed only natural that I become:

soccerdad

I've been using "Space Amoeba" since the old BBS days (when I connected at 300 baud - seems I was more archaic than Kirbic. *grin*). The name was actually born out of my grade 9 science class wherein we were studying "The Kingdom Protozoa" and my lab partner and I found the whole topic so boring that we created a whole host of drama for our single cell specimens. "Space Amoeba" was particularly huge... he had a sidekick, the "Paramecia from Planet Pluto" but that was too verbose for a nickname. :)

Much later, I learned that there was a Star Trek TOS connection, but not many know of it. So far, I've never had a problem logging in to things online. It's a good nickname.

It's amazing what goes into the history of some nicknames. Good topic call. :)

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!

I can't stop laughing about this!!!

Mine's not imaginative at all...O is my first initial (for Onessa) and Freasier is my last name *shrugs* Most everywhere else I use "sisterdark" as my name, it's from a favorite book and I've been using it since I was 15 and getting on local BBSs back in Louisiana in the early 90's. I guess I wanted to seem more normal here, ha ha!

Well, in a burst of inspiration I decided to use my middle name. It's relatively rare in the world, so I can often claim it for a handle, except back home where it's only unusual.

Waaay back in the day, around '91, I became a sysop on Compuserve, in charge of the Chess Forum (of all things). For my main sysop account, I used my real name, but I maintained a second account there, so I could lurk and be anonymous amongst our users. For that account, I chose the name "Marshall's Ghost," after my favorite dead chess player, former US champion Frank Marshall. A few years later, I was signing up for a membership in the Internet Chess Club, and wanted to use Marshall's Ghost as my handle there too, but somebody had already taken it (jerk!), so on a whim, I used Strangeghost instead, and that has been my online handle of choice ever since.

BTW, the Compuserve Chess Forum was one of the closest knit online communities I ever experienced. I'm still in touch with some of the "gang" from that era, predating the WWW by a fair margin (I go back even further than that, having been a BBS pioneer in the heady days when a 1200 baud modem was considered cutting edge).

DPChallenge is the first community I've found since those days that really feels like a chummy club.

I LOVE YOU GUYS! (and gals)
