| This is also my first challenge, and I can't believe I am so nervous about it :), specially after I saw the quality of the submitted pictures!! |

First time i took part in a challenge was back in 2002. Back then i used a different username and posted realy crapy shots like this one //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=2589 and //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=2287
Toady I'm a member, on my way to buy me a Canon EOS 300D or better and I'm taking part in Candid II and New Years Resolution III. Both pictures are not that good but it's something. Well last minute shots could i say.

Yellow Revisted.
It was my first challenge and wasn't sure what ratings to expect. I expected too much of it cause I thought it was clever. Not clever enough apparently ;(
But in any case I've only done like 3 challenges since and I am getting better as a photographer in general. I love this site and its endless path of knowledge.

My first challenge.
There are so many talented people in the other challenges I viewed.
I thought for sure I would end up closer to last place.
I thought and thought about what to enter.
This is what I came up with the night before the closing date.

My first challenge was the recent Movie Titles, mine was the "Odd Couple" I made some mistakes in that one i.e. there were lots more folks in there. I appreciated the comments although few, I guess I must hold the record of 5's given in any challenge or 111... rather happy with the outcome though, didn't know what to expect..

My average is above that, but my Faceless entry is at a whopping 4.166!
Not sure i am improving, DPC wise. I am improving in my skills overall though!
My 2004 Best of is at 5.1 something, which is a tad over my 2004 average. At least that seems consistent.

I'll take it. Now that I look at it, I did take some time to frame it how I liked, but nothing like the winners really amazing persepective on the architecture they shot.
I think I could get to a striking image that would do well, now that I'm more familiar with the site and challenges, but who's going to pay the rent?
I find myself thinking about images all the time now, and evaluating them before I shoot. I'll let you know if that's a good thing later.

I was very happy with this. I would like to take photos not worse than this one. Sometimes I can manage to do so, but it is not easy, it is really tough... but this is the beauty of it. I have been learning ever since, I hope I am not hopeless...
I entered 11 more challenges since then with the result of four worse and seven better placings. |

How could my entry get a 5.7 and this get a 4.6? (granted in different challenges, but still...) That's nuts. I think I've learned not to enter for the scores, but to learn from comments. For what it's worth cheeky, I think yours is amazing.
The thing I'm seeing so far is the great shots get the comments like "great" and the ones who score low don't get the comments to improve - just my observation from three challenges so far.

I can beat all of you ... I managed a 2.8 and still no Brown Ribbon. My only excuse is that for me it was a speed challenge -- I'd only found the site the day before the deadline.

| Just wanted to say that this is a very interesting thread! It's fun to see how people have imrpoved since their first challenges. I've recently submitted to my very first challenge, "Old and New," so I hope to have some semi-decent results to post soon. |
