Congratulations to the winner and runner's up for "Something New"!
Unique and well done photographs!

Connie: How was this done? Did you see it coming out of it's skin and then rest beside it, or did you place it? This photograph has excellent sharpness and clarity. Love the wings!

Hi Karen,
This was a very tricky shot; I guess these bugs camouflage with the trees so birds won’t get them. I found the cicada and shell they way you see them in the picture. It was only 3 feet off the ground so I used my tripod to get the best shot I could. The cicada stuck around about 24 hours so the next day I was able to shoot him without the shell. It is rare to find them together or to even see the bug.
I live on 13 wooded acres so I find all kinds of creatures:)

Well, it looks very "national geographic" to me, and now, knowing the story behind it makes it even better!
