It's lacking contrast and has that blurry impressionistic look to it. Some people like that, the majority of people dont. The color in the original is more vivid but still has the blurry movement thing that may or may not have been liked by the majority of voters. I think the original is a stronger image than the one you submitted.

the thing i don't get is all the commenters didn't comment on the motion of the tree (which i thought captured the wind and created a wind aspect to the shot) they said it was too washed out

It's likely because some didnt look further than the washed out part. You could try adding contrast to the submitted image and have a hybrid of the two.

I commented on your entry. I stand by my comment - your explanation helps, and i think the submitted shot is better than the original - only because you are trying to achieve an impressionistic or painting type look to it. The washed out look hides the blur.

This is a very different shot from what is 'normal' here. Bottom line, beautiful shots do well, daring, off the beaten path, digital art, etc shots do not do well, on average.

What could make it better? Not sure anyone can answer that..it appears to be a failed attempt at something. The best thought would be to start over...not a particularly constructive comment, I know.

What would you want to hear? "Lose the blue, straiten the camera, stop the washed out bit,..." ...well, fine, but then you have such a completely different image you are essentially starting over. This is not something i can say 'the blue bit distracts' or 'the big black border fights the orange of the subject', etc.

Hope that helps some.

Interesting that you marked comments in favor of your image helpful, but all the 'washed out' ones you did not. Are they not helpful?

I think there is a middle point between the two, where you still have some colour, although not so much of the sharp/blur. It's a strange effect.
