Im aware of the format of the old wedding photography scams, but this letter looks a bit different yet so vague and full of typo's that im curious if anyone else has received something similar?

My wedding Has been schedule for 15th of febuary 2005 at Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains,325 West Eighth St.Cincinnati Ohio 45202,i will want you to come and cover the ceremony,i am expecting 300 to 350 peoples, can you give me the total cost of 6hours shoots in my weddimg, and let me know if you aare going to make it my day.I have seen a little of your work on the net and i'm impressed.Mind you i am going to take care of the flight ticket and accomodation,so it should not be included in the expenses.Waiting for

I would say "yes" unless they are wanting us both to do the wedding. :)

Edit: because I received the same e-mail

Call the Churh and ask them to confirm it for you. I am sure if you explained your concern they would be more than happy to confirm if this person has really booked a wedding there.

both ov u have nice portrait pics in your profile so I could see why someone would hire both ov u for a wedding but scams are hard to pick and cash is the best form of payment or gold :) (gold being less traceable)

Nope because I got one very similar a couple days later from the same "referral site" that I do not recall ever visiting. I believe the other one was from someone in England that was going to get married in Florida or something like that.

Maybe I'm missing out on a good thing, but it seems like a scam to me.

seems scammy to me too. Ive seen the one from england and it is a very long letter...almost always the same. I suppose it wouldnt hurt to reply and just play along to see whats up. The ridiculous thing is that Im sure there are many great photogs in their area...which is what makes me question this completely. WHY ME?

Heida...the scam is something about they send you more money than what you are charging and then they ask for a return of the extra funds. Im not sure exactly. There are also the nigerian based scams where they are wanting to buy prints for their shops and then pull off the same overpayment thing...im guessing. Im a bit clueless really and have luckily not fallen to prey to any of this. I'll reply to this one and let you know how fishy it gets. ;)

That was my thinking exactly, but you are a MUCH better photographer than me, so I could see why someone would want you. :-)

Be careful replying as they could just be trying to gather information for spamming and such too.

What referral service did your's come through? I went back through my e-mail and I deleted all of mine. I think I'll recognize the site, if you still have it.

mine does not appear to have linked through a referral service. I have no idea really. It also is not an email via my website contact. And it is not my general junk mail email. I have myself linked to a variety of free wedding sites and I honestly do not know which ones list my direct photography email address. My reply was very vague and just enough to see if they respond. ;)

I'm curious to hear what you get back, if anything. I'll mark this thread.

cool. And for my wedding photography being better than yours...WHATEVA! I looked through your pricing scale. Are you including high res CDs of processed images with the smaller packages? Are you batch processing? Im curious because i find myself completely backlogged for jobs that need to be processed. I can only do so many weddings and still have the time to process. And all of this will put a total cap on the amount of money I can make with it. Im in a quandry and a shifting of ideas about how to move forward with it all. Wondering what your method is and how it is working for you. Is your wife the second photog? Perhaps I should be PM'ing you. Sorry for all the questions.

I'll PM you with my e-mail addy...well shoot, you were at my site. ;)

//neworleans.craigslist.org/

Where people sell their used items, find apartments, etc. Kind of a local version of e-bay, want-ads.

More locally based.
