I'm looking for input on what people use for flash modifiers.. purchased or home made...
-links to the modifier, or pics would be welcomed.

I use a Lumiquest Midibouncer. Very helpful, softens shadows. Makes your camera about 8 inches taller though. And if you have it on a bracket, you could put somebody's eye out with that thing!

I have one of those too. I feel like a nerd with it on my camera, but it works great.

No problem here, I really am a nerd, and the midibouncer only proves it :D

Or you can do what I did:
I cut a fan-shaped wedge (looks like a funnel) from the top of one of my Olympus cardboard boxes (nice bright white on inside) and use a heafty rubber band to attach it to the flash head. I tilt the flash up to aim at a ceiling for bounce, and a good portion is directed back at the subject in a diffused manner off the cardboard.
Yeah, it's a Ghetto approach, but the price was right and the results are good. Nerds unite!

I use a wedge shape piece of plastic cut from a 2litre icecream container, held on with rubber bands. Crude but effective.

I used to use a plastic cup from my refridgerator until I got a Sto-Fen Omnibounce.

Also sometimes I use a bounce card.

I often use a Sto-Fen OmniBounce (B&H link) to modify the flash for indoor shots. I sometimes also use it outdoors.

For outdoor work and some indoor flash modification I use LumiQuest ProMax system (B&H link). This allows for light to pass through the honeycomb modifier and bounce (if used without any insert) or with an insert it redirects light back to the target by providing its own surface for bouncing the flash output.

Seen with silver insert

An old photo of me with the whole setup on my flash bracket.
