I use Photoshop Elements, and haven't had time to figure out everything that it can do!

Frankly, I use whatever software is available to me. Photoshop 6 at the house, when I feel like sitting at the desk. More often Corel PhotoPaint 10, because it was the software I had access to when I put my laptop together. Howeve, I will admit to not being any sort of wizard with either piece of software, or my other favorite, PaintShop Pro.

What *I* am more interested in is what programs people are using to layout and print their images.

I am using Corel Draw v9.0 for my layout and printing...

The Gimp for editing.

I also use ImageMagick + Rexx (Rexx is a programming language) to do batch manipulation of images, such as creating Thumbnails and index pages and extracting image info from info.txt files.

I use photo shop elements and corel draw 8, corel is what I broke out on but am liking the new challenge of photo shop elements. Am taking classes on photo shop next month so perhaps that will give me a little help in figuring things out.

I use The Gimp. I'm a beginner but the more I use it the more I love it. To me it seems that there is almost nothing you can't do with it. There is also a Windows version for all the monopoly OS users of you ;-)

I use Photoshop 6 for editing and print out of QuarkXpress 4.1. All on a Mac.

Irfanview most of the time. I used Photoshop 6 for a while, but I didn't need much of its features and besides, I absolutely hated the way it worked and it did not present the images in a true way. The resample algoritms were limited, it couldn't keep the Exif info, etc etc etc. Most disturbing was that it did not present the image fluently, but rather pixelized. Even explored did a better job. (Running on a machine with an Athlon 1200 on a 266 mobo with 256mb DDR 266mhz Ram) But I have something against all the software from Adobe (Illustrator, Pagemaker, PDFmaker), it is not what I would call user friendly.

I use Photoshop 6 and Qimage Pro for printing

Photoshop 7, Adobe Photoshop Elements, ACDSee, Fireworks, Gimp, ULead PhotoExplorer Pro, ThumbsPlus....whatever is at hand and whatever does it fast...

Might take me a minute to open up Photoshop 7 versus opening up ACDSee in 3 seconds to do a crop or a resize...

Most of the time Elements to do the quick and dirty work...Photoshop coming in second

I mostly use Photoshop 6 and Thumbsplus. I also use Xara X (www.xara.com) for vector graphics work (I'm a web designer).

Mostly use photoshop 7.0 I have used Corel photopaint and MGI photsuite in the past. I think Photoshop is by far the most powerful, but I was also very pleased with Corel when I used it. I think MGI photosuite is OK for people who want the software to do alot of auto corrections but I find it to be a pain if you really want to tweak and tune. In MGI Photosuite you can forget about the extensive photo manipulation and creative aspects that come with Corel and Photshop (most people will never even know these exist however).

Hi;
FYI - I have used many different photo editing programs and, by far Photoshop is, by far, my favorite. A couple good alternatives to the expensive (and daunting...in the beginning) Photoshop program are PaintShop Pro, or Adobe Photo Deluxe. There are many adequate and acceptable programs on the market. The best advise I can offer is find what works best for you and meets your budget.
The editing program you choose is not as important as taking a high quality photo for dpchallenge.

Just my humble opinion....

Corel PhotoPaint 9 for editing, Qimage Pro for printing, and Canto's Cumulus for indexing and archiving.

Until I purchased PhotoShop three months ago I used Ulead PhotoImpact almost exclusively. I also have Jasc PaintShop Pro version 6. I still use all three, depending on what I'm doing and which one best suits my purposes (and which one I know how do do something with). I still have much to learn about all three, but for the person who doesn't want to pay as much as PhotoShop costs I would probably recommend PhotoImpact. If Photo Elements had been available when I first got started with this I might have done that, but I don't think it was out yet, or if it was it didn't show up in any of the many reviews I read before I made my choice to go beyond what came with my printers, etc.
