I was thinking I was lucky to be living in London with this challenge, especially within spitting distance of Docklands and all the footbridges there; but then I thought Paris would be even more spectacular ...

Got any other ideas?

I do not know where the best bridges are, but I know it is NOT Plano, Texas.

Hopefully the challenge isn't about the best bridges but capturing the best image of a bridge even if its a run down shoddy little bridge. Yeah, you are lucky if you have nice bridges in your country. I certainly wouldn't find a spectular one here in Mauritius.

IN upstate New York there is a bridge spanning the upper Hudson River, called the Rip Van Winkle Bridge. Traveling west it faces the beautiful Catskill Mountains. Heading east you see a castle-like structure that was the home of Frederick Church, one of the early painters of the famous American Catskill School of Art.
There are nice pictures up for grabs for sunset, sunrise, and misty, foggy days, as well as fall foliage, Winter snow, Summer boating season, and even fresh green Spring. Catching a rainbow would really make a good pic there.
It's where I used to live. :-(

looks like i'm gonna have to travel a bit for this challenge ... i live in central florida ... only thing close to a bridge would be an interstate overpass ... not very exciting ... i'll have to make a trip to the coast :)

There was a pretty cool bridge in Jacksonville when I was there. It was near the Jacksonville power plant. Don't know if you know this one or not but it was a really nice suspension bridge.

How far are you intending on traveling? If you are in the neighbourhood then Venice in Italy has over 1000 pretty nice bridges :-)

Why does a bridge have to be some piece of engineering marvel to be cool. In my neck of the woods we have Kinzua Bridge, the 4th highest railroad bridge in the country, very cool during the fall. Nowhere near as spectacular but still cool was this little branchline railroad bridge near the place I once lived. It was maybe 100' long and had iron pipe for railing. If you were lucky you could see a lot of wildlife in the area

Plano bad? Try Houston! Is there a bridge in Houston? This would be a time to live in New England.

Yeah...up in the northeastern US there are still some old covered bridges. They'd be nice in snow!

Wow -- you're from St. Marys! I used to be a DJ at 97KYN, before it changed names and formats a dozen times. Kinzua is a great place -- I miss going up there. I guess the train doesn't run across that bridge any longer, either, which is too bad.

I live on the Welland Canal, where there are something like 15 bridges spanning the canal all within a half hour driving radius. There's also the Niagara River Gorge, where they have 4 or 5 100m-high bridges linking the US.

I guess I better show up for this challenge, eh?

Clues56,

I did a quick Web search of bridges in Houston as I remembered a very unique bridge I crossed while visiting a friend. Try the Fred Hartman Bridge for some ideas. Here's a couple of links: Link1 and Link2

And for anyone else interested try Bridges of Texas

Well Italy has its famous bridges but I know one that is about an hour away that isn't so famous but is old and magnifcant. Venice has nice bridges but I'm not headed into that city during carnivale. Too many tourists. Ponte Vechio in Firenze is a very nice bridge. Again too many tourists around that one to even bother with. My entire saturday will be devoted to taking pictures of this bridge I have in mind.

what a problem? DO I take a picture of one of the many covered bridges and have a rural looking picture, or do I take a picture of one of the many steel railraod bridges that span the cuyahoga river and have more of an industrial looking picture? Or...

choices, choices, choices...

Woe is me !!

The Drake bridge shot is great Gordon, those silohuetes of people on the bridge are amazing.

You can think very small as well. Foot bridges are bridges.

How about "The Bridge over Troubled Waters"?

Remember that there are also bridges in music, on instruments, and metaphorical bridges (that won't score very well unless extremely clear) between people such as a handshake, a reaching out, or eating the same piece of spaghetti. Alas! I am forced to think in such ways because of the lack of bridges in my dry state. I can't wait to see images of the Brooklyn bridge and the Golden Gate bridge. But I also look forward to logs over streams, Japanese garden bridges and boring, broken bridges made interesting by your excellent efforts! It will be a fun challenge to explore!

Personally, I'm hoping to see the photos that show creativity triumph over the photos that are just regular photos of great bridges. This challenge is supposed to be about the photo, not the bridge.

There is a bridge in Washington State at Deception pass that is very high above the water, I think
It will make a great bridge shot
