Hi there. I borrowed my friends's Rebel a few months ago and took some RAW images. Now he can't find his software to process them. I think it's called Zoom wizard or something liek that from Canon. I found the upgrades on Canon's site but not the software itself.
If my friend can't fint his copy, how can I legally obtain this software? Thanks for your help :-) |

if you use Photoshop (CS I think), you can open the raw in that. Or, if you use Gimp, look for DCRaw, it should convert it as well.

if you have the $$$ one of the best raw converters is Capture One (or C1) from Phase One
the Canon software is called Zoom Browser, you might find it at Canon's site.

Phase One has a free 30 day trial, so you can download and try it out before spending any $$$.
The Canon RAW processing software sucks. Big Time Sucks.

Another option for conversion, for reasonable $ might be Photoshop Elements 3.0; it also has RAW conversion, I believe.

yes, but C1 is really fast, so it's a good way to find the RAWs you want to do more work on, develop them into .tiffs (16 bits) and then use PS/Elements to PS 'em up

I used capture One for a while, but I've basically given it up in favour of the RAW converter built in to Photoshop CS. Ends up a whole lot more convenient, at least to me.

I am looking forward to trying out the RAW converter in PSCS, but I need to upgrade to PSCS first. Is it as fast as C1? Better in some way? or is it just move convenient for your workflow?

Canon has recently issued updates for it's RAW converter software, Digital Photo Professional; along with EOS Viewer and EOS Capture. Read about it at RobGailbraith.com and download from Canon.
