Check out www.resellersratings.com and find out how they are rated and what former customers said about this reseller and others.

I've heard that their shipping costs are outrageous. You might find a better deal at resellerratings like Olyuzi said. If you search for a product at that website, there is an option where you can enter your zip code. The website will then determine the shipping cost as outlined by all the websites that are listed and you can make your decision then based on the FINAL cost. Good luck.

Check this thread.

Abe's shipping charges are horrendously high. That, plus looking at their ratings at reseller ratings, made me buy elsewhere.

I bought my Minolta DiMAGE 7Hi from them about 2 months ago. My first choice site had this camera on backorder and had no idea when they'd get more in, so I chose another site. I made the order over the phone, and the person I spoke to seemed to just be reading off a sales card the whole time. I wasn't terribly suprised, but he kept pushing and pushing me to buy other stuff, especially their extra warrenty. I didn't enjoy talking to the guy much, and he misspelled my street name and left out my apt. number on the package's address label (without which it won't arrive). I ended up putting great effort into tracking the package through UPS and calling their delivery centers around here so they could radio the driver with the correct address. Not a very smooth exchange.

Here things get better though. The camera out of the box was great, and the lens I got with it has been nice. Everything was included in the box, and it was packed and stuffed with peanuts very well.

Overall the experience averages out to mediocre. Got a good product, but I wish my first choice site would have worked out.
Hope this helps :)

I would just check resellerratings.com to see all of the reviews for it. Most people are a little sketchy when it comes to buying things from small online stores.

I live in the area of their location, and I personally would not recommend them.

Greetings,
OMG!!! What a pain in the *ss these people are to deal with!! When I ordered my Sony just over 2 months ago they were nothing but a hassle, 1st they wouldn't ship it because my credit card billing and shipping address are two different places, I explained to them that up here in the woods we dont have home mail delivery and just use the PO Box at the nearest town, however Fedex does manage to find us, Nope took 2 days of fighting before I gave up on that one so I decided fine, I'll get my dad to order it for me since his are the same, next day same email, no shippee camera, why this time? Cause he wouldnt give them a phone number other than his cell phone (seems he hates telemarketers calling him at home, imagine the nerve!, lol) Now mind you Fedex/UPS dont care about cell numbers, just Abe's something about protection from fraudulent credit card use, Finally after he spent over 2hrs on the phone with them (they wouldnt even eccept his fax number!) and a little more trickery on our part they finally agreed to ship! Btw, they're prefered method of communication throughout this ordeal was by email, leaving a message saying call so and so at ext xxx, when you call it your dumped to voice mail, which they are VERY slow returning!
The only good thing I can say about them is they packaged the camera really really good, and it was exactly as advertised, new, in the box and wonderfull, but for all the hassle, I'll never deal with them again I dont care how good their price is.
Mike
P.S. Btw, I used to deal with these guys about 10 years ago and they were excellent, seems they have gotten a lot more anal as they grew bigger and older.

It's a cutthroat business, customers are always chasing the lowest possible price, making a $1000 purchase decision on as little as $10 difference, leaving very little margin for the retailer. There are two ways for retailers to respond to this...

1.) Take the low road: push accessories at inflated prices, use the "out of stock" tactic to "encourage" those sales, charge obscene amounts for shipping, institute difficult and expensive (read near-impossible) return policies, Strip customer service to the bone, and in the worst cases, try to sell separately (and expensively) what normally comes in the box. Not to mention reselling customer information for another buck...

2.) Take the high road: Since they have to actually have some staff and thus can't be the lowest priced, they must compete on service. Thye will lose sales to first-time buyers who don't realize the value of good service, but once they have a couple experiences with retailers that take the low road, they have customers for life.

The online sales community is just starting to really mature as more and more "average folks" shop online. There is still room and tolerance for bad behavior that would never be tolerated in a brick & mortar business. Eventually, these "bad apples" will be pushed out to the periphery by the more reputable sellers.
Since it's difficult to tell from a website how reputable a seller is, it is absolutely necessary to check an independent source, such as resellerratings.com.
Personally, I only deal with known, reputable sellers, and before I buy from someone new, I always do my best to check them out. Sellers like Abe's of Maine, who have gravitated to the hard-sell, sketchy-ethics fringe, will inevitably get what's coming to them, if consumers educate themselves and realize that chasing the lowest possible initial price is not always the best course.
