So, out of curiosity, why would Thanksgiving make people edgy? Seems like it should go the other way.

The day after thanksgiving is known in the states as the "biggest shopping day of the year" in the move up to christmas season. Considering the shape of the economy these days, im sure lots of people are stressing out about having buying gifts they can’t afford, among other holiday expenses.

Yesterday here in Tampa FL, a man walked into a mall radio shack and shot 3 people and then himself.

Luckily for me Holidays have been something to look forward to growing up, and even into most of my adult years. However, some see it as a source of anxiety, the preparation, the deep seeded family issues... etc.

Keep up the smile ursula! ... you must be smiling about Holidays to have posted this.. good for you! :)

Our Thanksgiving is long passed north of you but we Have Christmas to look forward to!!In Canada it is the second monday in October.

Most recently the desire to single out the better photographers by calling them "masters" has just been one more reason to turn away they are merely more advanced than others they are not masters.

I just want to point out that the term "masters" was used during a trial of a new challenge concept. Those types of challenges are now referred to as "Invitationals" to better reflect what they really are. In addition, they are not restricted to "singling out the better photographers".

I think the cat might be out of the bag on the name "masters". Whilst I understand that this is an open challenge forum, is it unreasonable to acknowledge that there are individuals who produce images which consistently stand out from the rest.

Hey, hey, HEY! Lets try and keep our rants segragated and organized! Otherwise all this supposed chaos will just get, well, chaotic. Now, this thread is just generally about how the current state of the site sucks, and not about specific reasons why it sucks. Please take those to the approriate thread.

Thank you.

;) (Hope somebody still has a sense of humor out there...)

Ah, thank you for bringing some cheer to an otherwise dreary and negative thread...

I joined for the simple fact that I love to look at everyones work... and to show off mine from time to time.. some of us (myself) enjoy the fun side of photography, go out and have an enjoyable day shooting and then return home and look at the good the bad and the ugly. Others I feel enjoy the science of it, all the tech talk, numbers, fstop chatter and discussing facts and figures... yet still there are those that enjoy the art side of it, trying to capture and express emotions. I think this is all good, just look at the variety of whats posted here. For example a challenge could be where we all shot a yellow pencil on a black backdrop and I guarantee there would be so many approaches to accomplish the shot and all would be unique having some of us say wow... cool idea, I would have never thought of doing it that way.

Keep it fun and improve your own skills and if ya can make a few bucs here and there from your pleasure/passion... good for you ;)

People are too stressed. Drink a beer and watch a funny movie tonight. Tomorrow go out and take some pictures at your favorite place and let yourself be happy.

In Canada they celebrate a holiday called 'Boxing Day', I believe on December 26. Just out of curiosity, what is 'Boxing Day'?

Yeah, like what is all this negativity? What is it going to do for you? There is a world of ideas and if you happen to like photography why not enjoy it.

There is no need to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. Besides, if you fall in love with life all over again you will reduce the heavy emotional litter. Life is simply interpretation: what is yours?

I'm just feeling ornery because I have to go eat, praise and pretend I like my Mother-in-Law's turkey, which tastes and digests remarkably like styrofoam packing peanuts.

I will be thankful for canned gravy to at least make it palatable.

Come to Grand Falls next Dec 26. Don't forget to bring your boxing gloves and protective cup. FIGHT CLUB !!!!!!

It's supposed to be that the day after Christmas you put stuff you're going to return in boxes or summin.

It's an English tradition, aka The Feast of St. Stephen, a martyr. The term is thought to come from the opening of 'poor boxes' at churches, which contained donations of food, clothing etc. for poor families.

As Jacko alluded, nowdays it's for crazed shoppers participating in 'Boxing Day' sales, of the 50-75% off variety, which are generally to be avoided by anyone even mildly afflicted with misanthropy. Personally I use it to play with whatever I got at Christmas, and do something that involves both family and alcohol ;).
