Some really shit challenges for the first 4 rounds of DPL…

My take on it is that they gave us subjects everyone has easy access to, in order to improve participation.

I don't know. Appears to be some pretty fine images produced.

And very welcome they are too. The highly specific challenges of late have pushed me away from this place.

I find the challenges to be all inclusive yet still give you the opportunity to stretch your imagination and creativity.

I've got no complaints.

Beats the hell out of this

I’ll never get that week of my life back.

The cream always rises to the top, even if it’s not in the right order.

I thought the complete opposite. An excellent choice of topics.

Yes, we are blaming you. Or crediting you, depending on one's perspective on the topic.

I am pushing my creativity for these challenges. I'm working hard as I can for my team and enjoying the challenges. They are hard to be extra creative and it is a good thing for me. I didn't see the low scores coming but its okay. I am grateful for the league.

Your usual whining snark when you disagree with anything your ego is tied up in. The guy has a very good point. Just accept that your precious baby has its many flaws. This one of them. One could argue the entire league thing does not fit the spirit of DPC.

Exactly. I agree with Phocal, the topics are so boring (at least to some of us). I thought it would be nice to be back at DPC and do the DPL, but after week 1 I already regretted to be part of it. Will help my team and end the DPL and then say BYE.
This intention got even stronger this morning when I noticed that my image in Holy Places (a steady 6.60 - 6.70 in the last 2 days) received 3 votes in the last half hour: a 3, a 4 and a 5. Bringing it down from 6.64 to 6.44. We all know the trolls are out in the last hours of voting, but this was so imminent: people voting low in order to be able to end higher in the ranks themselves. IMHO this is the biggest flaw. Make voting les anonymous for a change, see if they then have the guts to still downvote other people.

I disagree that a 5 vote is a troll vote. You rec'd 6 of those in total, and I was one of them. It's a pretty picture sure enough but I didn't get a sense of a 'Holy Place'. 6.4+ is still a very nice score. There is certainly a hit with last day voting. I've come to expect it, as it also happened this time for me as well (going from 6.8+ to 6.5 the last day or so).

Sorry to see you leave when DPL is over. Hopefully you'll reconsider.

It is very frustrating to have the last few hour drop - happens virtually every single time (a .2 to .3 drop); but it happens to most of the top finishers AND I now view it as a badge of honor to have my images voted low. It is definitely frustrating and everyone feels very similarly. For me, I had to stop factoring in my finish and just enjoy the process. I have tried photographing subjects I don’t normally photograph and stretching myself to use my camera in ways I never did. For instance, the upcoming HDR challenge. I haven’t ever done that and if it weren’t for DPL and my commitment to my team I wouldn’t take the time away from my daily pursuits to learn it. So, for that, I am excited.

I don't get this. The Holy Places challenge wasn't even one of the league challenges, consequently half the league participants didn't even bother to vote in it . . . and no one could have had an "ulterior motive" for giving either a high or a low vote.

It hasn’t to do with the DPL. It happened in many challenges before. But it’s fine, apparently some people have their reasons to do so. Very sad.

I think that DPC was never a place with enthusiastic marks, but far better than a simple "like" button in FB or Instagram

To me any score bigger than 6 is a good score, if this is your concern.
If your concern is why people give low marks, than of course you can feel frustrated at a human level response.
In the end you choose how much you like photography, your images and where to show them.

Any art field is filled to the brim with frustrations but people never stop creating

Curious - what your solution would be - what exactly do you see as a way to fix this logistically.

Do do realize that you are INFERRING motivations and attributing behaviors to people you can't identify and for which you have no actual evidence or proof. This has the effect of impugning the integrity of every voter ...

Personally, I'm disappointed when people express criticism in overtly hostile language, without either clearly expressing the underlying reason for their disappointment, or offering constructive suggestions (e.g. "better" challenge topics).
