Last Architecture challenge was 2021 and was archival. Previously it was 2015.

About time for architecture XI?

Amen to that but this place is wildlife and scenic vistas with bugs and still life stuff. Urban world scary. In good old days of 400 entries we had that. Now the clique of 25 swoon over their pals same old stuff. Sad demise of DPC.

That's a pretty negative statement, even if we DO have a hard core of DPCers who have stuck it out all these years, that doesn't make us a clique. And the solution is "enter more different pictures" and things would loosen up. If folks would mostly enter stuff that was fun to do, rather than stuff that was targeted at winning, then we'd have a different spread of winners. Beating an old drum here...

We'll definitely have one in DPL5: keep your antennae up :-)

I try -- that's also how I play SCRABBLE ... :-)

ETA: also don't we have about 80 folks participating in DPL (not including me)?

Lighten up, everyone.

I feel the only clique here is a group of die-hards that love this place. I have found it to be an open, welcoming place where I can ask any question and get caring people that take time to answer. I just told someone about DPC at a show -- telling them that it's smaller than it was before, but that it's still an incredible place to learn.

I don't know of anyone who has ever voted higher for a friend. It may have happened, but I certainly don't know of anyone that's done it. I know that people have their likes and dislikes. My tastes have expanded exponentially since joining this site. But I know that I still have the same loves that I did before. Just more of them now. Your tastes probably haven't changed that much, either. Urban stuff is interesting -- but I have to travel 50 miles to get urban -- so that's why I have very little of it in my portfolio. It doesn't interest me enough to take the time and gas unless a challenge warrants it. Simple as that.

Regarding entering stuff that's fun to do and not targeting winning -- I photograph what gives me joy, happiness and peace. And the whole purpose of the site was to better my photography, so I try to do that with each photo. But that's why I joined DPC -- to get some experience with other things. I will go photograph architecture, but it's not particularly fun to do. I'll photograph SPAM -- and that was a blast, but it was because I put a cat in it.

Life's too short, guys. Let people have their fun. Let them enjoy what they're doing without feeling guilty about it. If we're in too much of a rut, pick different challenge ideas. With over 1700 challenges entered, I try to enter as many as I can -- whether or not I like the challenge topic, so that each challenge has a chance to have a full field, and so that I stand a chance of learning something new.

Was planning on it for the very last challenge, but then we ended up with only one playoff round :-( Sorry.
