If there are to be no flags than why those colors? After reading the other politically charged thread I think this would be a bad idea.

I don't know, at least we know people would be passionate about their entries...and there's a lot of other flags (besides USA) which use that color scheme. But a flag prohibition (and maybe a ban on stars and stripes) would make an interesting challenge. Or maybe we should have a flag contest specifically...

I don't know how many flags I could stand to vote on...

You're probably right! Maybe it could only be things you'd WANT to be on a flag, or metaphorical flags, or objects containing "flag" as part of their name, but not actual flags.

Our flag uses red, white and blue. But our country's colours are generally thought of as green and gold, since those are the colours we wear at the olympics and so forth. Generally, though, I think of red, white and blue as the colours of the French flag, representing liberty, equality and fraternity (no? I might have gotten them wrong). Krystov Kyslowsky made a great trilogy of movies based on those colours and their associated themes (I probably spelt his name wrong too).

How about 'Three Colours - No flags' or 'Green, Pink, Orange'.

People said the same thing about pencils; it turned out to be a great challenge.

I think if there's a red/white/blue challenge you're gonna get a lot of whining from the non US participants that this site is all about being american and patriotic. Best to stay away from it. If you chose 3 other colours (ones that wouldn't give us a zillion patriotic pics) I think it could work out nicely. Why not something more along the lines of Opposite colours...
i.e. orange/blue, purple/yellow, red/green...etc... Please just stay away from red/white/blue... some of us dont like american patriotism thrown in our face (not to be negative..) and a whole challenge that leaves it wide open would just piss off a lot of people.
