Would also have to be Extended editing, and maybe to make validation easier it could be limited to some reasonable number of originals.

The article seemed very concentrated on combining multiple images of an urban scene. Do you envision it confined to that specific style, or is it open to any combination of blended images?

It doesn't look like multiple exposure blur, but one long exposure, where you move focus either via zoom or moving the camera.

We'd have to find a way to word a description to require superimposed images in different blend modes, as opposed to "collages" say... Off the top of my head I don't have an answer to how to steer this challenge in that direction, but it IS an interesting idea for a challenge.

It can be whatever scene you choose. But urban landscape works very well. I’ve already tried this, was going to enter something similar for the recent composite challenge. I just wasn’t sure if people were ready for it ha ha .

It’s a lot easier than you think. A lot of the times it’s just one exposure but overlapped ever so slightly, to portray a feeling of movement. Use different concentrations of the motion blur filter, just look at the photo intensely. You can work out what the Photographer did that way.

Just make it Extended Editing and let the voters decide if it fits the style. I wouldn't worry about "collages".

I like these a lot. Good challenge idea.
Just curious... are collages accepted in standard editing (there was no flag for the recent collage challenge)? And if so, is it just the "blur" that would fall into extended edit?

Collages are by definition multiple images and are not allowed in Standard without an Extra Rule (except for the special cases of images used only as "textures" or stitched panoramas) ... blurring IS allowed in Standard.

Thanks.

Personally I think that this type of photography is too much prevalent since the idea started.
1x is rife with those, to name one place only.

Just like everything, this style/technique/processing can produce wonderful images. In my view this was not the case with the Urban melodies. They do look too formulaic and the effect produces similar images.
I myself used it partially here
and wonder about how to avoid the sameness look in other photos.

I feel more strongly against a "painterly look" where one can see abused filters throughout the whole surface, faux impressionistic look and look-alike paintings.

Uh oh ... I didn't "abuse" any filters but you still might not like my upcoming entry ... :-)

My goodness, I abuse 'em to high heavens sometimes. I'm a sporadic abuser of filters and a confirmed abuser of tone mapping and over-saturation. That's my story and I'm sticking to it :-)

Abusing is good Bear and I always said how much I like the tapestry look of some of your “obsessive” images. I was referring to create faux Impressionistic sweet images etc relating to the Painterly challenge. Using filters to make brush effect, canvas etc.
Well, never mind me.

I *always* mind you, Mariuca, you're one of my favorite DPCers :-)
