I thought I'd start a thread to celebrate positive surprise reactions to images submitted on here.

So tell me, have you had any recent submissions whose response positively surprised and delighted you? Did you submit not expecting much, but got a great score? Did it resonate highly with a small sub-community in a way you didn't expect?

---

I'll start off. I submitted the image below to last month's Free Study. I liked the image for many reasons, but I was genuinely pretty shocked to notice that I received 6 comments during the challenge, and 2 very rapidly after -- it's far more than I usually would get! I didn't expect to score at all well (I was right there!), but I also didn't expect it to receive more than one or two comments. It's nice to be surprised like this now and then :-)

Well I certainly do prefer it to this DPC classic:

Couldn't resist digging up a nearly-two-decade-old challenge entry, LOL!

I was very surprised mostly because it was totally unplanned.
My than beloved Canon Powershot started to make sometimes these streaks, at its own volition, before deciding to end in glory all functions.
The rain was actually tears of losing this friend
30 comments and 11 favs! This was back in 2013

This image, created with a scanner, really pushed my comfort zone, but resulted in something really special and surprising. It seemed to capture everyone's imagination. It was disqualified because scanners don't have EXIF.

an unpopular photo, and yet pleasing in some quarters.

it's a teeter totter: not wholly off the mark, but I never know, and that is why these comments are so exciting. to me.

(also a cat, elusive)
