Just curious.
As a veteran myself, today is a bit special, and appreciate what our vets have done and are doing. (USN 1974-1984)

This is NOT a political right/wrong thread, nor should this get into beliefs of military and such, just a thanks and recognition to those that have served.

I took two minutes silence today at 11am GMT

Lest we forget, ...

... on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month ...

When you get home
tell them of us and say
for your tomorrow
we gave our today.

They shall not grow old
as we who are left grow old,
age shall not wither them
nor the years condemn;
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning,
we shall remember them ...

In Flanders fields the poppies grow
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

John McCrae, Battle of Ypres, Spring 1915.

I went to a Memorial service this morning, took alot of pictures.
During the national anthem, I was taking pictures(of course) and some
guy walks up to me and says "son, didn't your daddy teach you to stand with your hand over your heart during the national anthem." I was like WTF, I didn't say anything though, just kept taking pictures. Just the way he said it pissed me off. I felt like I was doing something wrong.

U.S. Army from 1993-1996. M1-A1 Tank Driver/Gunner

Just a short amount of time but I am proud of the time I spent serving my country. It set my life in a completely different direction than I ever imagined growing up.

USMC from '72 to '76, worked as a "grunt", mule driver, radio man, sniper, and recruiter. I saw half the world in the Far East, mostly good times. I wish they had digital cameras back then.

Korea is a beautiful country. I wish I had more time to explore the area. I'm going to Japan for Christmas. Currently I'm on BN staff with 2-9 INF, and am looking forward to a more low stress job.
