Hi and I hope everyone had a great Old and New.
i'm trying to enter the diptych challenge and my entry consists of 2 images one above the other with a width of the allowed 800pixels and a height of 1200 pixels.
When I view it at actual size on my 1920x1080 pixels resolution monitor I have to scroll a little bit up and down to view both the images.
I looked at the previous diptych challenges and there I looked at some of the entries which are also 2 images one above the other and are also 1200 pixels high and 800 pixels wide just like mine and when I view them I also have to scroll a little bit up and down to be able to see them completely....ok but now! ...when I upload my entry for the challenge it seems that DPC is resizing my entry and it becomes a lot smaller so that I don't even have to scroll up and down to view the images completely. I can view both my images completely without having to scroll but they are so small now that they loose any impact they had and don't look nice. Why is this happening? Why don't they display like the other entries of the same size in the previous Diptych challenge?

It's not being resized as such, it is being rescaled for your display. If you viewed it on a higher resolution display, it would not be rescaled.

I find that preview images and images in voting are rescaled to fit my monitor but once the challenge is over everything returns to its normal size. I actually find it quite frustrating when I have to scroll to see the whole image.

sure i understand that but why aren't the entries of the previous diptych which are the same size as mine not being rescaled then?

Right must be what's happening then but i wonder why the images are being rescaled only whilst on voting stage and then thereafter return to normal size.

My guess is that it was done to make it easier to vote. I find it difficult to judge a photo when I can't see the whole thing at the same time.

This is correct. When we increased size to 1200 pixels many years ago, an algorithm was included to scale the image to fit the real estate of the screen on which it is being monitored, for voting purposes. It's part of the challenge display interface, not the portfolio display apparatus. The whole business of not being able to see the entire image when voting was a sticking point when the 720px size was raised to 1200px, and this was the compromise arrived at.
