So I got a comment from a baghead.

This pisses me off!

I wanna go, "But, but, but.....THIS is why I did it this way!

Now I gotta wait.

Drat!

This won't be the popular opinion but if the work doesn't speak for itself, I don't care what the artist has to say.

And that is exactly why some people opt to be a bag-head!

If it was in splash -- it was probably from me. Read the splash forum. I figured my comments weren't going to be liked by some. I just went off of what I liked, what I didn't, and what I would have changed if it were mine. I realize my vision isn't everyone's, but I figured that it might give a little more explanation as to how I was voting. And could make an interesting conversation after the challenge was over. Since it was posted as a comment -- it's fair game for a discussion after.

And wait you probably should anyway. I've always felt it was best NOT to respond to comments made while the challenge is still in the voting stage. It takes away your anonymity of the entry, and it can be seen as trying to influence / change a vote (depending on the context of the response).

But I completely understand not agreeing with it. I have a couple of recent entries that I'm going to put out for comment, because the score (reaction) surprised me.

I figured I'd rather know what people were thinking when they were voting, even if they completely miss the point. I'd rather know they missed the point than wonder whether it was the subject, the processing, the emotions, the technicals. There's just so many reasons a person could disapprove -- and I'd like to know why. (That is, I think I want to know....) :)

Yeah, duh me...... I didn't think of that, merely a lively discussion as to the merits of various techniques and perspectives. I actually don't much care about scores at all any more, just the input I get. Even getting no comments speaks to me.....as in, do something noteworthy! LOL!

I've had voters/viewers miss the point, or what I thought was the point, and had them direct me to a perspective I hadn't even noticed.

I love to get viewpoints about my images especially when someone feels strongly about it.

I often wonder what it is about an image that makes people buy it especially in a case where there's no way for the viewer to know the backstory.

So anyway, my entry turned in an abysmal finish.....that's okay, it wasn't a great entry.

That said, I got *two* comments basically suggesting that I should have cropped the lower portion of the image as it would look better.

Well yeah......it *is* a better image, but because of the smoothness of the water above it. Cropping it kinda takes the splash out, IMO.

What do you think?

I like the cropped version better......and already had it as my desktop wallpaper.

But the challenge *was* Splash.

Yes, the cropped version, if the challenge topic isn't considered...

I also agree with your reasoning, Jeb.

See?

This is how good communication with your fellow DPCers works!

I discovered that I took a lovely water abstract image that looks great as my wallpaper.

I also had demonstrated to me, for the umpteenth time, what happens when you try to shoehorn the wrong image into a challenge.

Sigh......

LOL!

I love this place!

If you want to see it demonstrated again, check out my entry in "Mannerism" after it rolls over :-)

I wonder if rather than "improving by trying to satisy the same limited amount of judges in every challenge,
our collective natural need to be liked results in everyone entering similar shots, or similar style shots in order to
make "better" art?

or perhaps we should trust in the anonymous group think voters as knowing what is best?

- I do realize juried panels are just too much work for people, especially when such casual shots are entered.
