One more from yesterday at the quarry pond; in honor of the upcoming challenge I made color and B&w versions ...

I took this at Lake Travis near Point Venture, TX. The wind was blowing at about 20 MPH causing the lake to toss pretty well. I was more interested in the color than the boat, so I focused on the near side of the lake. Shot at f/7.4 and 1/95 sec.

Photo Link

That's an interesting image Ed. It does have some strong color to it. I went ahead and created a link for it. If you have a complete URL you can use the 'link' icon (globe) to post it. Of course, you could go ahead and sign up for a membership, get the blue shirt, and have 100mb of space to saving images here. Also, just in case ... image size limits in a forum post are 500px on the long side. Usually we just post a thumbnail (via our DPC portfolio space).

ETA - the link resolves to a https when it loads in a browser. Not happy. Need to edit it, once in the browser, to a straight http.

Thanks. The system would not let me post the URL (somethig aboout preventing SPAM). So, I signed up!

Bottom line - it's about learning, experimenting with something that may be outside your area of expertise, or in some cases showing / teaching others if you do happen to excel in the chosen venue. No rights or wrongs here. Total sandbox.

I need to consider this. Although I like the hard, sharp, edges I usually get, I would welcome something different. Maybe this weekend? :-)
Thanks for the tips.

Okay, now that things are working the right way, here's the photo of the lake being ruffled by the winds and with the focus on the near edge to blur the waves. The second photo is a kind of abstract approach that i was just playing around with.

Roz, I love this. It absolutely works. There is something poignant about the dog that’s great here.

Darn it. Went on a family adventure this afternoon and I took a few photos along the way but didn't get any results worth sharing.

Anybody else have any luck today? I'll give it another go tomorrow.

Hi Ed ( efaulk). Not sure if you're aware, but photos that you post (here in threads, or in challenge) can receive comments from others. If you have your profile preferences set to receive email notices on comments left you probably already know. If not, you can see the comments section on your profile page (upper left), or on the image link itself (again, on profile page) under the section where the photo is noted (challenge entries or portfolio). You can chose to mark them 'helpful' (or not). There's a whole can of worms that come with that, but handle it however you see fit and / or comfortable. Give me, or anyone here, a shout if you have any questions.

Two birches in front of our apartment house. Title is the last line of the poem, "Birches," by Robert Frost.

Went down to the garden to play with the daffodills for a little bit this morning.

Commented on the second and third of Dennis's daffodil images. The softness of the colors is very pleasing, and they allow the mind to drift here and there. Nice.

Responding to Dennis's (EstimatedEyes) wondering how my photo, below, would look in black and white, gave it a go. In Lightroom I put it through auto and added dehaze, clarity and texture, then took it into NIK Silver Efex. There I put it through "Wet Rocks," then the film look of Neopan ACROS 100, and finally gave it a selenium tint.
I like how it restored the birches to its basic actual colors and gave it some depth. However, I prefer the colors of the original.

I agree! The B+W is interesting, but loses some of the mystery. And seeing the two side by side actually makes me like the color better. Not that I didn't like it before. I just like it better now. :-)

It would be an interesting exercise to see what people thought this image was if it wasn't publicized what the original subject matter is. :-) Then again, that could hold true to many of the images shown in this thread I suppose.

Thank you to those who suggested another approach to this picture. This one was shot at f2.8 and 1/15 sec. I had to undo 60 years of training to move the camera while shooting.

As always, comments are welcome.

re Colored Patterns 2 by Ed (efaulk).

Very interesting pattern. It reminds me of the overlapping scales of fish and butterflies, in macro. I'm especially drawn to the transition of blue to orange, or vice versa

Personally I am not fond of abstract blur in photography so I seem to be incapable of creating just abstract images.

Fair enough, and totally understood. Eventually we all find our niche (or two). You have a distinct eye for art. If you're not careful there could be a "in the style of mariuca" challenge on the books! :-)
