Talk about a blast from the past! I just caught up with David Scarbrough (' . substr('https://www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/31.gif', strrpos('https://www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/31.gif', '/') + 1) . ' scarbrd) to get the inside scoop on his latest project, a documentary on legendary photojournalist Bob Gomel.

Gomel was a Life Magazine photographer from the "golden age" of film photography. In David's documentary, Gomel takes you through some of his iconic works, mostly from the 60's, sharing the insights and backstories that separated him his peers. Unlike today, where history can be live-streamed by anyone with a cellphone, we used to rely on photojournalists like Gomel to take us into the action and behind the scenes to document the reality of our world and the people in it. Even if you've never dipped your fingers in a stop-bath, you will find Gomel's accounts of Muhammad Ali, Richard Nixon, John F. Kennedy, and the Beatles fascinating. As much as Gomel's works painted a picture of their day, David's piece helps preserve the history-behind-the-history of this legendary photographer.

You can stream it on Amazon Prime (free for members, $1 for non-members): Bob Gomel: Eyewitness

If you have seen or heard about One Night in Miami, here's little tidbit for you: that movie would not exist were it not for Gomel's photo of Ali and Malcolm X! Thanks to ' . substr('https://www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/31.gif', strrpos('https://www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/31.gif', '/') + 1) . ' scarbrd, you can now get the inside story on the image that inspired the movie.

If you are so inclined, please feel free to leave a review at Amazon and/or IMDB. This little gem does not need to be a best-kept secret!

Thanks Skip! Great talking to you today!

I've been away from DPC for too long.

I am Facebook friends with several DPCers.

Making the movie was a challenge like no other for me. I am not a movie maker, per se.

If anyone does watch it, please leave a review on Amazon and iMDB. The more reviews we get the more it gets promoted and recommended.

I hope everyone is doing well. Friend me on Facebook!

I really enjoyed this documentary. Being old enough to remember all of these events growing up, it was a wonderful nostalgic trip in time and amazing to hear some never before told stories and see unpublished photos of the time. Bob Gomel is an amazing photojournalist. I watched this documentary twice. Very well done!

Thank you! I am so glad you found it interesting.

If you don't mind, please leave a review on Amazon and/or iMDB!

The more reviews we get, the more it gets referred.

We got a good review today from the major newspaper in Houston, TX where we live.

Also discusses a little copyright issue we have One Night in Miami. The movie was based on a photograph taken by Bob Gomel for LIFE Magazine.

They painstakingly recreated the image Bob took of Malcolm X and Cassius Clay at the diner in Miami after the first Clay v Liston fight.

Scroll through the pictures in the article and you'll see both images. Bob owns all the rights to the original image. Signed prints of this image sell for $3,000 in galleries in Santa Fe and Atlanta.

Bob was never consulted, credited, or compensated.

If not for Bob's picture, the movie One Night in Miami would not exist.
