I have an iPhone 12 Pro, which btw is not on the equipment list, but that's not why I'm starting this thread.

I'm starting this thread because I've noticed my phone photos have already been sharpened. Even after I resize them they look sharpened, maybe even oversharpened. Has anyone else noticed this with their phone photos? I'm wondering if some phones/versions are sharper than others.

I'm not sure I want to "fix" this but I would be interested to know if someone has found settings in the phone that affect this, or any other stories you want to tell about how sharp your phones are.

I can't help you with a sharpening setting. However, it doesn't surprise me that there is plenty of sharpening/over-sharpening happening. New camera/image improvements help drive new phone sales. With the size constraints, it is difficult to keep making improvements to the physical cameras and lenses. So, they try to improve image quality by taking advantage of the impressive processors in phones today. I know the iPhone 12 does some amazing stuff automatically combining multiple exposures for HDR and low-light images.

I can help with the equipment list issue. Your phone has been added.

Well, EVERY jpg image, regardless of source, has been sharpened to some degree in-camera. I've always been satisfied with the amount of sharpening applied to my Samsung Galaxy 8+ and have never looked to see if it's a user-definable function. Not very helpful, I know. Your new phone will shoot RAW, but I'm sure you know that. According to what I've read, it's not that much of an improvement...

thank you for adding the phone!

the sharpening's not a problem yet, though I have one image that looks a bit haloed to me.
