Can you please schedule one? Thanks.

When you schedule it, will you please allow cropping?

I think that would depend on the topic. But ... one of the purposes of Minimal to to try and "get it as right as you can" in camera, and that includes composition as much (or more) than exposure.

To me a picture which requires a little tone/contrast adjustment is more "in the spirit" of Minimal than one which needs cropping. Fortunately I'm not in charge of scheduling challenges ... :-)

How about “Minimal” with minimal editing?

We don't need another ruleset. Minimal is fine as is.

I do appreciate the last posts, but... there was a promise that some minimal Challenges would make a concession and allow cropping.
I’m asking for the next one to allow this.

IIRC, it wasn't so much a "promise" as it was a statement that we'd experiment with it. Which we have done. Honestly, except for certain specific challenges SC doesn't think it makes a lot of sense. "Minimal" ought to be just that, MINIMAL, unless there's a good reason to do it otherwise. Those of our members who just can't STAND not being able to rotate and crop are probably best served not entering those challenges.

And yes, Barry, I'm aware. There'll be one on Thursday most likely. Feel free to propose some fresh ideas in the "Challenge Suggestions" forum (that goes for everyone of course).

That's what I do, I hate Minimal! And I need a break.

I don't need a break, but quite often a challenge topic I am interested in is Minimal. Nothing to do but pass on by.

Can't be that "quite often" as Minimal challenges aren't run very frequently.

I guess I would add that quite often there are challenge "themes" that I don't care for much and will pass those by. We all have choices ...

Exactly Barry! It's not compulsory to enter them. As there have only ever been 108 minimal editing challenges out of the 3073 challenges DPC has hosted, it's not a huge inconvenience for people to skip if they don't like them.

But the number of entries is going down so maybe it does matter :(

Ya. I think it matters now with how few people are entering challenges now.

The numbers have been low for awhile. The archive challenges (open to all users) have been best represented (easy to sit at your computer and look for an old photo). If you look at the current board the B&W challenge had nearly as many as the recent archival challenges - B&W being something everyone can shoot for. The crazy, sometimes whimsical subjects will be harder to fill and get participation in. Visual Puns will probably be a low turnout, and possibly Epic Fail. Neither are easy to shoot for. Does that mean we shouldn't have them?

If anything, Minimal challenges are easier to shoot for (depending on the challenge subject matter of course).

eta - just went back and looked at some of the recent Minimal challenge themes and there were a couple of, err, challenging topics - i.e. "Pinhole", "Special Lens Effects". Would be nice to save some of those special subjects for Standard editing, eh? :-) Or just schedule more Minimal ones. :-D

No, these were specifically made Minimal because of the technique they were trying to emulate.

Fine with me -- I seem to score better in Minimal challenges than the others anyway ... :-)

You laugh -- it's my second-highest scoring picture ... :-)

It's because you can't just edit your photo until it looks good, you need to be able to produce stunning photos right out of the camera.

However, they "satisfied" the monthly quota of "Minimal" challenge events. It's not like these were an extra.

Well, no, but challenges like that and (for the most part) the "color" challenges are the perfect vehicles for minimal editing as they preclude PS manipulation to "simulate" challenge relevance.

Incidentally, Minimal Editing challenges will never be archival because not everyone has JPG originals in their archives, especially the rAW shooters. That's why the recent archival "Yellow" challenge was run with Standard Editing...

Ok. I put a few suggestions out there. Thanks!

bump … since someone started another thread on the same subject. LOL

Ya I shoot Raw but I have JPEG backups but I know that most people either shoot exclusively raw or exclusively JPEG.
