Ok, I asked this once before and got an answer, but I don't remember what it was!!
When I have an image that's already cropped landscape orientation, and I click on the crop tool to change the aspect ratio to 5x7, 8x10, etc., it's changing the orientation to portrait! I want it to keep everything the same and just change the aspect ratio. What did I set to default it to the same orientation as the photo?

Two easy ways to adjust this...
1.) After selecting the aspect (and getting the wrong orientation), grab a corner as if to resize (getting the double-ended arrow indicator), but instead drag like you are rotating. That will change the orientation of the crop.
2.) In the crop toolbar at top of screen, click the "left-right" arrow symbol to change the orientation
Those are the two ways I know, don't know of any way to make the crop default orientation keyed to the original.

Yup, thanks, I know those. But when you change the default to match the current, it leaves it as is, and just makes the slight change of wider, narrower, etc. So when you change from 4x6 to 5x7, it just cuts a small bit off.
The way that it is now, you change it to the right orientation, and then the scale is still majorly off, so you have to go resize it just to get that small chunk taken care of. |

I'm totally baffled by this description of the problem... It's certainly not an issue I've ever had. But what I always do is select the desired ratio BEFORE drawing the crop rectangle...

I'm even older-school... I don't usually use the actual crop tool, but the rectangular marquee tool and Alt-I, P keystroke series.
I think the confusion with the crop tool is that selecting the 5x7 preset will *always* result in a vertical crop. One could, I suppose, set up a 7x5 preset for a horizontal crop at that aspect. For me, it's just easier to use the Lr-like method of dragging the corner.

You can type 'em in the windows: 7-tab-5 and you get the landscape. I never preselect a ratio except square :-)

| There are a pair of arrows in between the two dimensions. Click on them and they'll swap. |
