Hi all. Haven't been on in a while, and looking to see if some of these guys are still around...

Heya, Rugman. It HAS been a while :-) You can find Richard Hahn on his Facebook page, he is very active with photos there. He no longer participates in DPC and his account is closed. I haven't seen Kenny Skidmore around since 2013, and have not been in touch either. Louis Daigle (SEG) is semi-active in challenges but hasn't posted to the forums in a long time.
What have YOU been up to?

Hey Bear. Good to see a familiar name still around. Not much, just working and living for the most part.
Thanks for the response. I've been thinking about getting back into photography again, but debating whether I should keep my Nikon setup or sell it and buy Canon. Just from what I've heard, Canon seems to have pulled ahead.
I appreciate your response. Good to see you. I'll check back in later when I figure out what I'm going to do. Again, thanks for the info. |

If you're contemplating an equipment update, you would probably want to consider a move to mirrorless. Nikon has good mirrorless options, and Canon is on the cusp of releasing their next two mirrorless bodies (July 09 announcement). All of the Canon RF-mount mirrorless options are full frame. The Nikon Z Series bodies are also Full frame.
Back in the day, the "dig" on mirrorless was the underperforming AF systems. That is most certainly a thing of the past. I'm most interested to see what the performance is like on the new Canons. I'm probably jumping in on the R5, which is the successor to the Canon 5D Series. The R6, also being announced, comes in below that, and is also looking like a great performer. Lots of options out there. If you are considering mirrorless, you also must consider Sony. They are in many respects a class-leader, though they don't have the breadth of lens options as Nikon or Canon. |

Yes. With Canon, for example, you can simply use an RF/EF adapter, and you get full compatibility with any EF lens, and actually can get some added features. There is an adapter with a control ring that you can assign a range of functions to, for instance to add an aperture control ring. There is also an adapter with a drop-in filter slot. |

Cool. Happy for Canon users. Sounds like a plan.
For Sony you can use either the Sony EA-3 or EA-4 adapter. I own both and can use any modern or vintage A-mount lens on my Sony mirrorless cameras. This includes all Sony, Minolta, Tamron, Sigma, etc.
And of course with mirrorless you can find adapters for just about any lens to use on your mount (some with functionality, some only manual).
Additionally, we've only been talking about adapting prior mounts to new mirrorless ... what about native lens that are currently manufactured? Sony has a wide range of native E-mount glass now, and it continues to grow with new models available frequently (from Sony and 3rd party - Sigma, Tamron, etc.).
How does the Canon or Nikon native lens lineup look (i.e. lens that will mount directly to a Canon or Nikon mirrorless body now without an adapter)?
So, long story short, I don't believe there are too many gaps in the lens options available to Sony shooters. |

I now have no problem with lenses, and the 200-600 is magnificent! My sonys are now all native lenses and I have absolutely no issues with them.
I'm definitely glad to have moved away from Canon. While there are a few things that bug me about my sony, I'm definitely still quite please with my system. |
