If that's what you see.

If this is done in Extended I expect some people will interpret the word "see" metaphorically, and not just the result of photons triggering reactions in the visual cortex ...

Yep. Kind of like a "Dream's" challenge.

So could the edit for this read EITHER standard or expert? I know that Expert rules allow standard edit, but some voters don't view it that way.
And for this particular challenge, standard and expert edited images could each be very interesting.

Very few people can really "not think of anything" and most people, when they do think of something with their eyes closed, see "pictures" and not text on a page. Take a picture which represents something you "see" when you close your eyes.

Or, make an image of what your retinas tell your brain -- I believe it's typically a mottled purplish color, but I imagine this is mightily affected by your skin color, blood vessel density, eyelid thickness, color and brightness of ambient light, etc.

Or, if you can achieve a perfect meditative state in sensory-deprivation tank submit a totally black frame, though that sounds like an expensive pain in the you-know-what just for a DPC entry ... :-)

Basically, it's a free study. No problem. Shoot something and slap a title on it that fits your "vision". Easy peasy. :-)

This thread reminded me of an exercise I participated in here years ago (2005). It was related to the book "Photography and the Art of Seeing" by Freeman Patterson.

Here's the original thread that jump started it, and some of the follow-up discussion. Even more fun is it led me to something I'd totally forgotten I had out there, and it's still waiting for me to add to it. :-)
