Funny, I haven't had a site not work in Firefox ever, at least since 0.9 or so.

I'm having that problem.. lot's of major sites aren't loading I think it may be something on my system.. couldn't get some of them to load in IE either.... grrrrrrrrrr
cnn.com, nationalgeographic.com.. are just a couple.

Check out if you have "for originating web site only" checked under Prederences->Web features. CNN and many other sites deliver (some) images from a different site (CNN.com does from CNN.net) so some pages do load but images don't

Have you added any skins? That was my problem.

Nope, no skins used...the main site that won't load properly is www.warehouseexpress.com.

I use the Mozilla suite. I love firefox, I NEVER get any pop ups and very rarely have problems loading sites. Firefox is also way faster at loading pages than IE.

Middle-click a link (click the scroll wheel on most modern mice) to open it in a new tab. I always have a plethora of pinatas--I mean--tabs open, and it's really the most convenient thing ever.

Had Firefox for a few months now, love it to pieces, and thanks for pointing out I can click on a link with the middle button, I find more out about this browser everyday, would recommend it to anyone, only downside is I cant get shockwave to work on it.

Tabbrowser Extensions is a nifty (but in still in development) Firefox extension. I've installed it since day-one with Firefox, so I don't know what "normal" tab features there are, but TBE adds lots of cool options.... you can re-arrange the order of the tabs, undo a close tab (which I sometimes do when I'm mouse-gesturing and do "close" instead of "back"), put the tabs on the left, right, or bottom, switch tabs with the wheel on your mouse, and a bunch of other cool stuff.

Just read the "caveats" before installing it; it is still in "development" and the author claims it isn't stable (but I use it all the time)...

I'm using Windows 2000 with either AOL 9 (version of IE I guess) or regular old Mozilla. Any huge reason to go to Firefox? I prefer to leave stable things alone unless there's a compelling reason to "upgrade."

I'm also sometimes on various Macs with OS 7.5/8.6/9.2/X.3

I find the Adblock extension and the tabbrowser extensions mentioned in EddyG's post just above, to be the greatest things. Also Firefox makes the pages LOOK much nicer. The rendering is really smooth and clean. Great layout, fonts. MUCH simplified configuration etc. Live bookmarks that use RSS feeds! TONS of extensions.

I've been using Firefox for a couple of years now, and it's rock solid. It's based on the Mozilla rendering engine, so it isn't a from-scratch rewrite either, so it benefits from Mozilla's previous stable codebase.

Skylen - I have had FF for a month or so now, and LOVE it. I couldn't find any RSS feeds, though. What sites have you found? Also, I didn't play with the appearance much - anything cool you'd like to suggest? Thanks!!

Oh, live bookmarks are so cool!! Try this: go to Yahoo! news top stories and a little "RSS" icon will appear in the lower-righthand corner of Firefox. Click it to add the Y! News RSS feed as a live bookmark. If you look at your bookmarks menu after this, you'll see all the current stories in the submenu under that bookmark!

A lot of blogs and news sites support RSS.

Thanks! I'll try that as soon as I get home. I googled on RSS and didn't come up with anything before. I still haven't convinced work to convert to FF!

Kylie - I just thought of a couple other cool Firefox extensions.

CuteMenus adds icons to the context menus, it looks nice.
Dictionary search lets you highlight any word, right click, and do a dictionary lookup with a single click.
Don't forget you can do this with Google (and other search engines... what, there are others?!) already! Just highlight any word on a web page, right click and choose "Search web for ''".
Linkification converts any URL or web site written only in text (like this: www.yahoo.com) into a real clickable link!!! It's awesome. No copying and pasting text links from posts anymore.
Adblock keeps me from ever seeing another ad!! It's great. It requires a little configuration because it uses wildcard patterns to identify the elements to block. Here's my current, pretty comprehensive, filter list. Copy and paste the rest of this post into a text file, save it. Go into Firefox after installing Adblock, choose Tools->Adblock->Preferences, click Adblock Options->Import filters, and import the text file. Ba-da-bing. You can add filters if ads slip through, by clicking the offending image, and choosing 'Adblock image'. Then look at the URL and modify it, putting a * wherever it looks like it should be, usually just after the hostname and the slash.

Here are my filters for Adblock:

I'm not sure if anyone's already mentioned this, but the USA Department of Homeland Securities, Computer Emergency Response Team, has recommended people use ANYTHING BUT Microsoft's Internet Explorer. That includes all the browser enhancers like Crazy Browser.

I was Win2K with IE, and couldn't think of a compelling reason to switch, but thought, what the heck, I'll see what it's all about. All I can say about Firefox is, I won't go back to IE now for any reason.

Yeah, Firefox will add an icon, but the Internet Explorer icon will still be there too. (If you're using Windows XP, you can change the default browser from the 'Program settings and defaults' menu.)

Firefox will also ask if you want to import your IE bookmarks, cookies, settings, etc., when you install it, which you probably should answer YES to make things smooth.

You don't even need to do that... the first time you run Firefox, it will ask you if you want to make Firefox your default browser. Click yes.

Suemack: Installing Firefox is laughably easy... you'll wonder what you were so worried about! As Kylie mentioned, the install doesn't remove anything, so you'll still have IE around for the occasional (poorly-designed) web site that only works in IE.

Happy surfing!

thanks for the replies.....tried downloading it tonight but hit a glitch when the favourites, cookies etc were being imported, then computer crashed..... so didn't download properly. Couldn't find anything anywhere :( deleted it and will redownload tomorrow when I've got a bit of time.

SUEMACK: Also, check out Mozilla Thunderbird for your email. (unless you have a Hotmail account).

Mozilla ThunderBird

You will still have the same security issues with OE, seeing as it's (almost) the same program code anyway.

Also, the good thing about ALL the stand-alone products from Mozilla, is that you can make them look exactly how you like, with hundreds of themes.

Just FYI - I saw a news blurb this AM that Mozilla has released Firefox 1.0 officially, and a new download is available on their website.
