The challenge description is to take two or more photos and combine them... taken within the challenge time frame.

And then we add Archival?

Itís just another free study with extended rules, right??

Yup. Except trying to steer people away from "Gyaban-Style" fantastic creations-in-photoshop and into a more classic type of composite image construction. We'll see how it goes.

Except this one kind of forces you to use SOME type of extended editing. :-) Most of the time I just enter a regular photo in Extended FS's (as do many).

ETA - except I would like to see this NOT be an Archival challenge - we've got WAY too many of those going on already as it is. Be glad when those start going away.

Ahhh... I understand the challenge a bit more now that it's started.

It's basically a Mark Wiley challenge.

I'll enjoy seeing the gallery of combos.

Really? Mark Wiley might be more confused now that it is started. I am not entirely clear what old-school composites are. I may have to do some research.

Iím not sure why this challenge needed a description, itís pretty obvious what a composite is, and we should be allowed to do anything we wish. correct??

Hmm. Yeah. Hadn't read it until now. Kind of muddy and not what I thought it was. Glad you mentioned it.

I've been trying to do those sort of images but not knowing how to do that sort of merge. Can anyone offer some guidance?

In Photoshop you'd probably change the Blend mode of the upper layer (e.g. Lighten or Darken) -- I don't remember if you can do that in PSP.

ETA: Here is a recent use of this technique where I could put a shot of the Moon into a mostly-dark area of the underlying image -- by changing to Lighten Mode and adjusting the tones of thje Moon I could make the dark sky disappear without having to create a specific mask for the Moon.

I can do blending modes, yes. And then mask areas as needed? thanks

Composite I (first time run)
Description:
Create a composite of two or more photos taken during the challenge period.

Composite II (current challenge)
Description:
The challenge here is to take two or more images and combine them into a single, cohesive statement. This challenge isn't meant to be about using bits 'n pieces to create fantastical images as much as it's about combining archival images in an old-schoolish sort of way.

How and why did the newly announced version get such a different, more exclusive type description from the first time it ran? The challenge suggestion for it (by ' . substr('https://www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21_F.gif', strrpos('https://www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21_F.gif', '/') + 1) . ' Neat) had no description requested, only an editing ruleset.

I think itís because Christophe won the last one with regular Extended Editing and the challenge was more about...

Just edit two images... merged together.

Just because the proposer of a challenge doesn't offer a description doesn't mean we won't make one for that challenge.

Traditionally, when a challenge is repeated, as it is in this case (hence the II naming), the description carries over. So, SOMEONE had to come up with this new, fantastical description. ???

During this lockdown, I have less opportunity to be creative with my camera. I am glad to have this chance to do some creative editing with images that don't have to have been taken within my current isolation bubble.

You can use any picture taken up to the submission deadline -- it does not have to be archival.

It DID say that, until Georges poked me and said "Umm, Ermmm, Mr. Bear Sir, sorry to disturb your sleep but, errrmmm" and I leaped into action with my editing powers.
