Post your outtakes from the Animals (No Birds, No Bugs) ARCHIVAL challenge here.
04/15/2020 04:21:52 AM · #2
I was too busy to have time to properly trawl through my archives for this challenge but did narrow my quick pick down to my entry and this one:

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/135000-139999/135744/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1247521.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/135000-139999/135744/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1247521.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

I decided to try something different but perhaps wasn't the best choice.

My entry:

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/3000-3999/3013/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1247499.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/3000-3999/3013/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1247499.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

[Edited to fix a really badly written sentence]

I liked your entry very much and gave a 9
Their facial expressions, the extraordinary eyes and the title on top was a refreshing change to sheeps. Actually I can't believe that your entry didn't end up TT.I doubt the outtake would have done better -the lamb in the center can only be seen from behind, that's a downvote

Thanks Barbara for the super feedback. I am pleased you feel I made the right choice.

My entry:
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/3000-3999/3013/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1247544.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/3000-3999/3013/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1247544.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

Alternative edit without the selective saturation:
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/0-4999/2158/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1247916.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/0-4999/2158/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1247916.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

I'd have loved to enter this one but the focus wasn't right:
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/0-4999/2158/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1247917.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/0-4999/2158/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1247917.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

I liked this but thought the background had too many distractions:
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/0-4999/2158/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1247918.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/0-4999/2158/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1247918.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

That's probably the one I should have entered. I'm not usually a fan of selective saturation but I wanted to show that she was sleeping with her tongue out and I didn't think that was clear in black and white.

I obviously chose wrong. Thankfully some people were generous with their votes.
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/3000-3999/3013/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1247379.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/3000-3999/3013/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1247379.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

Now I'm disappointed it didn't get last place. So close.

Should have went with one of these.

Knew this was a risky entry, as it wasn't what people expect to see. Performance was worse than I anticipated. I know I could have found something much more acceptable had I looked deeper in my archives.

Me too.
I understand your intention to leave the tongue red, but somehow it didn't add to the picture.
Colourkey used to be a big deal several years ago (I've done it myself) but seems to be totally oldfashioned nowadays. It's a pity, because sometimes it really gives the extra something.

The chameleon would have been MUCH better. I couldn't even find the animal in your entry at first sight
How come you picked the bat with such a great alternative?

the structures on your entry are great. I liked it. Maybe there were some doubts if this really are animals?
I also like the firefish and the seal- but the fish lacks some sharpness unfortunately.

the coin did it well.
Chocolate and the side glance are really nice.
The barrier in front of the goat is quite distracting - evenwhen your title made that a tille more tolerable

hmmm, hard to say - both images have some quailty issues. The motif mother and child is maybe more heart-warming?

yes, you picked the right one. More balance of lighting and therefore more clearly visible features in the Impalas face. Plus the exotic look.

I guess it's because of the work involved in finding the bats.
Those little guys aren't easy to find on your own.

Thanks -- I was hesitant to enter that one because it had been seen here before. But you did remind me of some possible animal pictures from longer ago I didn't look at (didn't have notes where to look).
