I'm looking to replace my old, heavy Manfrotto aluminum tripod with something much more lightweight. I shoot with a Canon EOS R with the batter grip. Lenses would range from a prime to a 70-200 EF lens, and a lot in between. I would like to get something that stands decently tall, but it doesn't have to reach my full height. I'm planning to travel with it, and also use it around town. Looking for recommendations both what you currently use, and also things you would consider purchasing. I'm not concerned about the costs just yet. I'll weigh all of that after I narrow down what I am looking for.

Also, what head would you recommend for the same setup?

This is what I use. Really happy with it. I use it without the center post. I have a RRS ballhead on it.

When traveling, I use this one. I do however use a Manfrotto 488RC4 head on it. I have found it very good for travel, since it will fit lengthwise in a carry-on.

I have the MePhoto Backpacker Air for travel. It is the same make as Kirbic uses, but smaller and uses twist-lock legs. Doesn't appear to be a current product any longer. I don't see it on their website and Amazon shows it unavailable.

I also have a Lumapod on order. It is a kickstarter project, and is way behind when they thought it would be shipping. I think I contributed sometime in 2018. Maybe will be available later this year once the virus crisis is over.

+1 for Gitzo. I have a lighter version from this series:

Never had any problems, never regretted the expense. I had it for 12 years now, still works like new. And I have taken it to the beach many times, and to Iceland and used in windy, freezing weather (those who live there or have been there know how windy Iceland is!).

Marnet, can you use the travel Gitzo without the center column for a lower shooting height?

I never used it but it says:
"With the included short center column installed, the tripod can get down to 8.6" for macro or low-angle shooting."

I didn't know it could Gitzo low!

Good shout on the Gitzo, I have a couple This one is the one I use most when out n about but for serious work I use a serious tripod Like this

re-surfacing this thread, I have Manfrotto too and looking to change. with the head and tripod it-self total weight is about 6lb :(

I looked at K&F concept Carbon fiber and I noticed that the price wise, they less then 50% then big brands and weight wise, they are pretty much same. Question would be then why should I buy a big brand item? what I am going to get as a regular user of the tripod?
