The sincere goal of our leaders is to save lives. One must take into account other factors associated with the problem. If we don’t get this pandemic under control, but at the same time get the economy back in gear how many lives will be lost from an economic collapse as a result of a depression which would result in collateral damage. That being loss of life from malnutrition, suicide, stress related illnesses, homicides, etc. the goal is to minimize the negative by finding a formula that can neutralize both terrible outcomes. It is a statistical numbers game.

"our leaders"? It is inappropriate to put numbers like 15 days on social distancing and self isolation. Mass deaths and overrun hospitals will also cause severe economic damage. It is a bad idea to play a game before you know what the rules are.

But Golfer, statistics show that limited quarantine periods will ultimately prove ineffective.

I do wish people who talked about "the economy" would study real economics.

As I said, the answers will come from the experts after careful analysis. Hindsight is 20:20. Frankly, I would like to know what President Trump knows that we don’t. If he would explain in more detail how he arrives at his timeline I would feel more comfortable or not.

I'm confused too ... I thought all the challenges for now are Archival, but it looks like it's only the ones that state that they are?

Like this
Mucking About with Boats II (ARCHIVAL)

Am I correct that that's the only one so far?

Please advise.

The intention is to make the others topics we can shoot at home. No need for something like "Crockery" to be archival.

We need to remain creative, not just with our computers but with our cameras too.

The newly announced "Animals" is archival too.

I am confused anyway, but I think that's because I am myself archival.

There will be one archival challenge a week, the open challenge on Tuesday/Wednesday.

Life has gotten in the way of photography over the last five years or so, and when I do take photos (pretty much only when on vacations), I download them from the card and then they just sit on my computer. I'm not even sure I always look at them.

I'm in 'Boats' with a 2 1/2 year old image. But while doing this, I realized post-processing is not like riding a bike.

I'll see what I can do with animals, too. At least these will give me the chance to relearn post.

Hi, gang. I think DPC would be good for my head right about now, so I hope to participate more. Hopefully lousy photos will be headed your way soon.

Somehow I stumbled on DPC again tonight. Just wanted to wish you all good luck and good health in this crisis.
Maybe I'll participate in one of the (archived) challenges. It would be nice to do that again :)

We'd LOVE to see you back in, if only for a quick dip! We've missed you!

So sweet of you! I'll see what I can do! :-D

Maybe it's time to pick up my camera again. I quit photography last year and haven't missed it at all work-wise, but making and creating something again can be nice in these strange times!

… We have a "State of National Disaster" - nobody really knows what that means, we are encouraged to practice social distancing, our schools are closed, all gatherings with more than 100 people are forbidden, our borders are largely closed.

I hate to write this, but I am sooooo tired of this hype. Don't misunderstand, I am all for being careful and mindfulness, including social distancing, I understand the need to flatten the curve of infection rate, I just don't get the Hysteria. Doctor friend of mine told me yesterday, they have 160 000 influenza deaths annually in Italy - nobody gets hysterical about that. There are vaccines for the Influenza, but only 8% of the population get them, despite the high number of deaths, and now we go into a total panic about this?

Stay safe everyone, stay healthy, but pls don't get hysterical.

So. Are we hysterical yet? The above post was from 3/18/2020 in this thread (6 months ago).

Time will tell who was right - UK style small and slow steps, or Singapore style aggressive finding every case and tracing all people who were in contact with a sick person and putting them into a compulsory 2-week quarantine. Singapore seems to have upper hand at the moment with no deaths and a very small number of cases but they are a very small country where such measures are easier to implement.

6 months later stats: Singapore - 5 deaths/million population, UK - 616 death/millions. These figures speak by themselves.
