Great. Thanks. I hope others will follow your example.

That's a treacherous path, and not entirely fair.

I did not mean to be disrespectful to others who are here for different reasons. I just was assuming because that is why the site was originally set up (as stated in the "about"section).

You can rest assured that if you want to make a quest out of voting and commenting, it absolutely, unequivocally *will* be greatly appreciated.

Unless one simply gives out adulating comments, I don't believe your statement is correct.

Didn't think you were. But then how many people read the about section on *any* site? LOL!

If you want some interesting insight, search the archives, and/or start one of the threads that cycles around every now and again asking how people go about scoring.

I'm always intrigued at how some people do their voting.

I will fully admit that I *should* comment more than I do.

I just didn't need YOU to point that out!

LOL!!!

One reason I don't comment much is because most aren't marked helpful. If my time is not helpful then why do it?

I find that figuring out how to articulate my reaction to an image often helps me learn, and trying to be polite about critiquing some aspect of it forces me to look for something to appreciate about an image. There's usually something. Although there are those images I just don't get no matter how long I study them. And the images that are technically fine, meet the challenge, and completely underwhelm me. I'm not sure commenting on those is all that useful if I can't see how I would have done it differently. But stopping to think about it has value for me.

I (and many others) over the years have learned that making thoughtful comments is of far more value to the writer than the photographer in terms of helping one become a "better" photographer.

There was a period of time when (apparently) quite a few people discouraged by getting inappropriate responses to their comments. I don't think that's happening now, and I try to send a note to any commenter who asks a question or offers an interesting perspective -- hopefully that's encouraging ...

not sure if this would be the place to put this information ..
but here goes .. !! ..

this was for the where's bernie challenge . .
was struck by how many wonderful images ppl had entered ..
btw .. there are two images i have to think about more ..

You have rated 52 of 54 images (96%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 26 images (48%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.7115.

also .. i have never looked to see if my comments get a like or not .. doesnt particularly worry me ..
when i give a comment i pretty much go with the first thing that i think .. my gut reaction .. if i have nothing positive to say i say nothing at all or i look for the positives to be found in the image and comment on those ..
i hope that my comments give ppl a good feeling about their photos .. i'm not here to judge as such .. but hopefully to inspire .. :)

I always mark the comment as helpful. I appreciate that someone stopped and took the time to comment. I've gotten some that I didn't like, some I didn't agree with, and that's just fine. I *still* appreciate it that they took the time.

This is true for me, too... except for a very, very few.

I enjoy reading positive and negative comments on my images.
